I am trying to find or stage situations which bring out the disquieting elements, which are lurking in the most ordinary and elementary moments of life where and when it is least expected." The work shaped up when the artist unexpectedly got arrested as a terrorist suspect while filming around Tegel airport. The police confiscated the tape he was using at the time – the 12th and last tape of an ongoing project – and sent it to the German Secret Service for examination. Apparently the material found on it must have convinced them of some suspect activity because they summoned him for interrogation only a few days later. Previous to that “incident”, Loukakos had explored the city of Berlin from side to side for four months, searching and waiting for extraordinary things to happen in the most ordinary moments and places. After his release, the memory of the interrogation naturally came to be the film’s scenario and guided the editing of all the filmed material he had already gathered. The film playfully questions representation and power while showing the uncertain limits between image and fact.

In this project, Yu’an Huang is inviting you to create a scenario where the cyber and physical spaces co-exist/ overlap. Experience the physical space expand into the infinite dimensions of the online existence.

===== Party 2.0 features transcontinental walls =====

During the last 10 years technology has significantly altered our lifestyles.
This project will seek to extend the possibilities of virtual space in art and will exist beyond the physical space. The happening of such will further connect viewers from different cultural backgrounds in a most instant way and may also allow discussion on orientalism to be made aware in a contemporary context.

Smartphone Party 2.0 took place simultaneously at Less Brook Gallery (Taichung / Taiwan) and Zollamt Studios (Frankfurt / Germany). Each space projected the other space live onto one side of the wall.
The concept of a transcontinental reciprocal extension of a shared gallery space allowed for a much wider audience connecting from and to the Taiwanese art scene, reaching those as far as London and Frankfurt.

Having lived 10 years in the UK, the equality of cultural power is a consistent concern in the artist’s mind. After moving back to Taiwan in 2013, the real life investigation has naturally led to emphasize on that specific aspect in her works. In this project, the visual parallelization of Asian and European art viewers in photo documentations, is expected to trigger the discussion on a cultural imperialist phenomenon of contemporary art viewing in this work.
