From empty room to believable crime scene: this is how we bring our environments to life in Forensics Crime Scene Detective.
A technically finished scene is not enough. Walls, furniture, and lighting may already be there, but without everyday details, a room still feels sterile and artificial.
That is why we spend a surprising amount of time dressing our scenes, especially our crime scenes. Books on shelves, cables behind furniture, cups, shoes, mail, remote controls. Most of these objects are not relevant to the case itself, and that is exactly why they matter. They make the place feel real.
At the same time, we have to keep the right balance. A crime scene should feel authentic, but important evidence still needs to remain readable and clear for the player.
Our tutorial apartment is a good example of this process. Many of the small details in these screenshots were added late in development. They do not change the mechanics or the solution, but they make the space feel like someone actually lived there.
And that is the goal: before players secure their first trace or analyze their first fingerprint, they should feel like they are entering a real crime scene.
