Beautiful necklace of large biconical bronze beads with bell pendant

Necklace made of 16 long, biconical bronze beads, most with net, dot, or groove decoration. At the bottom is a pendant in the shape of an elegant bell.
The city of Djenné in Mali was founded around 800 AD on the foundations of an earlier fishing settlement. It experienced significant expansion in the 13th century and flourished for many centuries, partly due to a stable trade relationship with Timbuktu. Beyond this, Djenné was also a very important trading post for caravans crossing the Sahara, thus serving as a link to the Mediterranean.
It cannot yet be definitively established whether bronze artifacts of this type, which were often uncovered and recovered in the 20th century due to changes in river courses, originated in Djenné or simply found their final home there as coveted luxury goods and status symbols through ancient trade connections.

Unusual Tanagra Figure of a Standing Woman

Statuette of a young woman standing in contrapposto. She wears a wide chiton and a himation. Both hands are enveloped by the garment. It cannot be determined with certainty whether the garment is tightly drawn over a hat, or if the hat sits on the head covered by the mantle, representing an unusual choice of hat shape. No clarification can be derived from literature either; for the only documented parallel piece in the British Museum (see reference below), the authors refrain from any comment.
Oval shape of the underside, left hollow inside for firing, no base plate.

Beautiful Roman bronze bust of Mars

The bust of the god Mars is crafted as an appliqué. He wears a tall helmet with a richly feathered crest. Beneath it, his curly hairstyle is revealed, framing his oval face with its generalized features. His forehead is broad and low, his cheeks only slightly convex. His deep-set eyes are overlooked by straight eyebrows. His neck is short and flows seamlessly into his powerful chest. The bust depicts half of his torso in military attire. The back is curved.

Roman glass vessel in the shape of a bird

A glass vessel with a spout, its shape reminiscent of a bird. Also known as a pouring vessel, dropper flask, or suction bottle. Free-blown glass without any decorations. The body is disc-shaped and flared, with a bluntly rounded base and a long neck at the top, the lip of which widens outwards into a trefoil opening. A pointed spout emerges from the body just above the base. The end was cut off in antiquity, allowing the spout to function as a pouring, dripping, or suction opening.

Qing Dynasty porcelain cup - Ca Mau shipwreck ware - Ex Sotheby's

Chinese teacup. The exterior is decorated with flowers and tendrils, bordered at the top and bottom by a narrow, continuous blue line. Inside, on the base, is a flower motif in a wide concentric double circle, with a zigzag band of closely spaced, diagonal lines running around the rim. These lines almost merge into a single line, yet remain visually distinct.
Having been submerged underwater for nearly 300 years, the porcelain has been perfectly preserved, making it a very rare example of the booming Chinese porcelain industry of the 18th century, which was only copied in Europe after considerable effort ("Meissen porcelain"). Pieces of this quality are found in important porcelain collections.

Large Attic Black-Figure Eye Cup

Delicately crafted, deep hemispherical cup with a high foot and two very slightly curved handles, which extend to a height just below the rim.
A narrow black glaze band at the rim. Below, on each side, a large polychrome pair of eyes. Each eye is framed in black; the white eyeball features a large red iris and an oversized black pupil. Curved lines around the eyes create the optical impression of a nose when viewed frontally; the eyebrows are also indicated by curved lines. To the sides of each pair of eyes are figures of dancing youths (komasts) shown in profile, always positioned with their backs to the handle and looking toward the eyes. They are rendered in black with anatomical details highlighted by incision. One of the youths wears a red headband, while some others have hair highlighted in red.
Below, a broad encircling glaze band framed by three narrow bands on each side. A rays pattern surrounds the transition between the body and the foot. The stem and the top of the base are completely covered in black glaze, as is the interior of the hollow foot. Handles are black glazed, with only a narrow reserved band on the inside. Beneath the handles (between the komasts), harmoniously curved and nested drops/brushstrokes, topped by a dot and a stylized leaf. The interior is completely black glazed except for a small central reserved circle containing a black ring and a concentric dot
