Eberhard Ross opens the door to the dialogue within the atmospheric space of our current exhibition
Utopias of Nature
Armin Mühsam • Roger Rigorth • Eberhard Ross
In his paintings, breath, sound, and color intertwine to create a light-filled sense of tranquility.
As he states: „A central element of my work is the search for tranquility in the midst of an unhealthily fast-paced world. Music is an essential part of and a constant companion to my creative process.
I try to hear colors and see sound. All my works arise from and within a deep sense of tranquility. I am happy when this tranquility radiates from my paintings into the room and touches people.
”When I think of art, I think of beauty. Beauty is the secret of life. It does not lie in the eye; it
lies within. Within us lies the recognition of perfection. We respond to beauty with emotions. Every work of art is about beauty; every positive work embodies and glorifies
it. All negative art protests against the lack of beauty in our lives (...)”
This quote by the Canadian painter Agnes Martin precisely articulates the foundation upon
which I work. Through my painting, I want to offer viewers the opportunity to encounter themselves and find joy in that experience.“ Eberhard Ross

In Eberhard Ross series of work „On the Nature of Daylight“, light itself becomes the subject. His
painting is a visual meditation that condenses daylight into rhythmic color structures. Ross does not paint the sun; he paints the essence of daylight itself. Through countless incisions and layers of paint, he creates a shimmer that is almost physically palpable. Here, nature becomes vibration, and time collides within
color until it becomes a luminous presence.

In Armin Mühsam’s paintings, nature and architecture converge. Mühsam examines how we organize the world. His paintings are analytical intersections where human utopia
(architecture) and organic reality (nature) clash head-on. In this painting, he directly
references the composition of a Baroque painting. Instead of a curtain, he places a tree on
the right side. Nature becomes the stage for the architectural construction at the center of
the painting.

In Armin Mühsam’s paintings, the sharp edges of architecture meet the soft lines of nature. He works using a kind of montage technique. Is he perhaps seeking, in this friction, an order for our relationship to the world?
The French philosopher George Didi-Huberman viewed montage as the ideal method for
making interconnections visible. Only by “taking apart” and reassembling fragments of
time can we truly understand the paradoxes and conflicts of history.

Armin Mühsam, Adjoined Anatomies, 2026, oil on canvas, 170 x 140 cm
Armin Mühsam visualizes the points of friction—the “plastic collision” of humans and the
environment—and critically questions our understanding of the structures and
constructions of visions of nature. He is the creative visionary who provides the
analytical framework for our current exhibition, “Utopias of Nature“.

We are pleased to announce the new representation of the German-American painter
Armin Mühsam. As a new addition to our program, he brings an analytical perspective.
His representational paintings depict landscapes as places where utopian architecture
meets nature. These are precise constructions that examine the relationship between
humans and nature through an architectural-abstract lens. What role does humanity play in Mühsam’s landscapes—is it the observer of what it leaves behind, or the architect of utopia?
