With always reach beyond the light, galerie burster presents an exhibition by Jan Kuck in which language, light and material do not appear as separate elements, but as interdependent fields of meaning. Kuck’s works do not simply translate language into images; they transform it into objects, situations and spatial experiences in which meaning remains open, fluid and unresolved.

We are so excited to come to Berlin!

It is important to have a Yad Vashem (Israel’s Holocaust memorial) branch in Munich for several key reasons:

1. Deep Symbolic Meaning
Munich is the birthplace of the N**i Party (NSDAP) — the place where the N**is began their rise to power and terror. Confronting Holocaust history exactly where it originated carries powerful symbolic weight.

2. Education Against Antisemitism and Extremism
The education center will serve as a “necessary counterweight to political extremism,” especially rising right-wing extremism. It promotes historically grounded Holocaust education, which is increasingly vital as the number of surviving witnesses continues to decline

3. Fighting Holocaust Denial and Antisemitism
The branch responds to growing distorted representations of the Holocaust worldwide and the spread of antisemitism. Its goal is to strengthen the fight against antisemitism in Germany and Europe

4. New Perspective in German Remembrance Culture
The center creates a Jewish perspective within German memorial culture, which was previously missing. As the “place of remembrance and center of Jewish life in Europe,” Munich offers ideal conditions.

5. First Branch Outside Israel
This is the world’s first Yad Vashem facility outside Israel — a historic step that underscores Munich’s role as a location for vibrant remembrance culture

In short: Munich as the origin point of N**ism is the ideal and symbolically powerful location to effectively strengthen Holocaust education, remembrance, and the fight against antisemitism.

Synopsis: Jan Kuck – “I Want to Be an Author Too”

EdiBon of 3 + 1 AP
FORMAT: 16:9, mov
DURATION: 67 seconds - endless loop

From his early twenties, Jan Kuck pursued his dream of becoming an author, studying philosophy to fuel his passion. After years of writing in stolen moments alongside “normal” jobs, he kept his work private—until now. By chance, visual art entered his life. As a conceptual artist, Kuck describes every piece like a story, channeling his storytelling through visuals and nuggets of wisdom that underscore today’s societal struggles. His authorial dream never faded; it simply evolved.

Kuck never stopped dreaming. His debut book, I Want to Be an Author Too, reflects the grueling path to authorship. “Being creative professionally is no easy job,” he says. Creation isn’t a choice—it’s an inner imperative. Drawing on philosophy, Kuck uses sarcasm and wit to tackle existential themes. His video’s deeper meanings unfold only at the witty, provocative end.

An homage to Dadaism and conceptual art, the book nods to his famous neon installation and completes his creative life cycle by realizing a lifelong dream.

JAN KUCK – VA BENE SENZA RIDERE: Irony, Neon, and the Absurdity of Our Present

In his solo exhibition VA BENE SENZA RIDERE at MAIIIM in Genoa, Jan Kuck presents work that navigates the realms of pop culture, language, and social analysis. Curated by Virginia Monteverde, neon, sculpture, and text coalesce into a precisely crafted field of tension.

At the center is a present that has lost its balance. “If we take everything so seriously, we end up taking nothing seriously at all,” says Kuck. His works respond to a society that is increasingly veering into the absurd—where people “shoot” with smartphones rather than guns, where everything revolves around the self, and where a sense of responsibility toward the community is lost.

Kuck’s response to this is not moral, but visual: reduced, pointed, often just a few words. “Brevity is of great importance in my work,” he says. Language becomes light—becomes neon that simultaneously seduces and questions.

It is precisely this reduction that gives the works their sharpness. Between humor and unease, a space emerges in which laughter becomes almost inevitable—not out of lightheartedness, but out of the realization of how absurd our reality has become.

His internationally renowned neon works such as WHO CARES, TIME MATTERS, or TRUST? translate language into light and space—striking, direct, and at the same time ambivalent. They are complemented by mirror works
