Wonderful world of pianos. 🎬🇺🇸💛 The Hollywood Sign – and immediately we have “Mia & Sebastian's Theme” in our heads. The piece from La La Land (composer: Justin Hurwitz) feels like a declaration of love to Los Angeles: a little nostalgia, a little new beginning – and that quiet glamour. Filmed at iconic locations in Los Angeles. Example: “Cathy's Corner,” in the middle of the huge Griffith Park, right on Mt. Hollywood Drive. 🎬🇺🇸💛

Wunderbare Welt der Pianos. 🎬🇺🇸💛 Das Hollywood Sign – und sofort haben wir das „Mia & Sebastian’s Theme“ im Kopf. Das Stück aus La La Land (Komponist: Justin Hurwitz) fühlt sich an wie eine Liebeserklärung an Los Angeles: ein bisschen Nostalgie, ein bisschen Aufbruch – und dieser leise Glanz. Gedreht an ikonischen Orten in Los Angeles. Beispiel: "Cathy's Corner", mitten im riesigen Griffith Park, gleich am Mt. Hollywood Drive. 🎬🇺🇸💛

Arvo Pärt wrote “For Alina” in 1976 as a new beginning – after almost ten years of compositional silence. Like an instrument that breathes again after a long rest.

Wonderful World of Pianos. 🎼😎🧥 In the 1920s, piano music was less “romantic” and more modern. Hindemith, Weill – and in between, foxtrot and early jazz tones. Design that works. Music that awakens:

Wonderful world of pianos. ☕🇦🇹🎼 In the 19th century, the Viennese coffee house became an important social venue: people met there to read, discuss, write, and conduct business talks. So-called coffee house music was usually played discreetly—often on the piano or in small ensembles—and was intended to accompany the stay, not drown it out. Typical pieces from the Viennese coffee house tradition:
🎹 “The Blue Danube” (Johann Strauss Jr.)
🎹 “Wiener Blut” (Johann Strauss Jr.).
Important: Coffee house music was not usually a separate genre of composition, but rather a suitably selected repertoire. ☕🇦🇹🎼

Jahrhundert wurde das Wiener Kaffeehaus zu einem wichtigen gesellschaftlichen Ort: Man traf sich dort zum Lesen, Diskutieren, Schreiben und für geschäftliche Gespräche. Die sogenannte Kaffeehausmusik wurde meist dezent gespielt – häufig am Klavier oder in kleiner Besetzung – und sollte den Aufenthalt begleiten, nicht übertönen. Typische Stücke der Wiener Kaffeehaustradition:

🎹 „Wiener Blut“ (Johann Strauss Sohn).
Wichtig: Kaffeehausmusik war in der Regel kein eigenes Kompositionsgenre, sondern ein passend ausgewähltes Repertoire. ☕🇦🇹🎼

Wonderful world of pianos. 😎🇮🇹🎹 While Germany is still wrapped up in winter coats, our thoughts are already traveling further afield. Toward the light. Toward the sea. Toward Capri. It is that special blue, that golden evening light over the rocks. Italian piano music embodies this attitude to life. Let's revel in it:
• Ottorino Respighi – “Notturno” (delicate, Mediterranean, like evening air by the sea)
• Ludovico Einaudi – “Le Onde” (waves, light, vastness)
We can already hear it. 😎🇮🇹🎹

Es ist dieses besondere Blau, dieses goldene Abendlicht über den Felsen. Italienische Klaviermusik trägt dieses Lebensgefühl in sich. Schwelgen wir darin:

Wonderful world of pianos.💃🎶💄 The elegant ladies' circle, with a piece by Felix Mendelssohn – “Songs Without Words.” Why? This piece was extremely popular in Victorian England – lyrical, socially acceptable, technically demanding, but not virtuosic in the concert hall sense. Music was part of education, part of social identity. A young woman who could play Chopin or accompany a song by Mendelssohn demonstrated education, discipline, and emotion. What would you play in a ladies' circle today? 💃🎶💄

Wunderbare Welt der Klaviere. 💃🎶💄Die elegante Damenrunde, mit einem Stück von Felix Mendelssohn – „Lieder ohne Worte“. Warum? Dieses Stück war im viktorianischen England äußerst beliebt – lyrisch, salonfähig, technisch anspruchsvoll, aber nicht virtuos im Konzertsaal-Sinne. Musik war Teil der Erziehung, Teil der gesellschaftlichen Identität. Eine junge Frau, die Chopin spielen oder ein Lied von Mendelssohn begleiten konnte, zeigte Bildung, Disziplin und Gefühl. Was würdet ihr heute in einer Damenrunde spielen? 💃🎶💄

Wonderful World of Pianos. 🥃😎🎹Bar pianists were particularly prevalent in the USA, especially between around 1890 and 1930: saloons, later speakeasies and hotel lounges needed live music, and a piano could often replace “the whole band.” In Europe, cities such as Paris with their café and cabaret culture shaped this image. Many actually did this as their main job. They lived off their fees, tips, and requests—and were true working musicians: long nights, a large repertoire, quick comprehension, and lots of improvisation. 🥃😎🎹

Wunderbare Welt der Pianos. 🥃😎🎹 In den USA waren Bar-Pianist:innen besonders präsent, vor allem zwischen ca. 1890 und 1930: Saloons, später Speakeasies und Hotel-Lounges brauchten Live-Musik, und ein Klavier konnte oft „die ganze Band“ ersetzen. In Europa prägten vor allem Städte wie Paris mit Café- und Cabaret-Kultur dieses Bild. Viele machten das tatsächlich hauptberuflich. Sie lebten von Gage, Trinkgeld und Wunschstücken – und waren echte Working Musicians: lange Nächte, großes Repertoire, schnelle Auffassung und viel Improvisation. 🥃😎🎹

Wonderful world of pianos.🎞🎥🎼 Did you know that piano music in films is almost as old as cinema itself? Even at the first public film screenings in 1895, films were accompanied live—often with just a piano, translating tension, humor, and emotion in real time. And that's probably where it all began: in Paris, on December 28, 1895, at the Lumière screenings in the Salon Indien du Grand Café. 🎞🎥🎼

Wunderbare Welt der Pianos. 🎞🎥🎼 Wusstest du, dass Klaviermusik im Film fast so alt ist wie das Kino selbst? Schon bei den ersten öffentlichen Filmabenden ab 1895 wurden Filme live begleitet – oft nur mit einem Klavier, das Spannung, Humor und Gefühl in Echtzeit übersetzt.
