A face is never only a face.
A color is never only color.
A myth is never only a story.

I keep adding layers —
and sometimes I remove them again —
until something deeper begins to look back.

Working on a new mixed media painting.

Lately, I’ve been drawn into myths.

Not to retell them,
but to understand how they came into being.

What happened before a story became a myth?

What was remembered?

What was forgotten?

And perhaps the question that stays with me the most:

Who is Medusa today?

Every layer of paint seems to reveal another question.

My braid
draws a circle around my throat —
an old pact
I untie myself.

I open my hair.
Strand by strand
old legends fall away.

They called them chains.
I call them knowledge.

George is still searching
for his dragon —
now captive
to his own demon.

I walk through my darkness
and braid fire
into my hair.

Dragon.
Lizard.
Witch.
Mother.
His unborn daughter.
