GUrban Current project: Artworks For Peace

GURBAN is an artistic, social platform between Gyumri and Munich, which connects together contemporary artists worldwide and creates a constant network between them. GURBAN is a cultural, social platform and community between Armenia and Germany, which connects together artists worldwide and creates a constant network between them. It commits to the establishment and development of social-cultural

platforms and centers in particular in the regions needing this contribution. Our motivation is to change the perception of the marginality of contemporary art and integrate it into a living social environment.

•Our aim is to create a unique experience and opportunities of contributions to social life: education, cultural development

•Changes in social structure and historical revival

•Cultural exchange

•Creation of new forms and ideas through workshops, activities, engagement into local life

We start with the cooperation between artists based in Gyumri and Munich and currently involve more than 21 artists from 5 countries. We will go beyond the boundaries of temporary art residences and promote Gyumri as an Armenian cultural center on the international level, thus participating in opening the borders, and providing conditions for development.

We’re happy to share some news 🤍Our documentary film AYG directed by Maria Matinyan Arnold Ghazaryan & Siranush Vardanyan has been selected for the “Emigration” Film Festival 2026 in Meduno, Italy, and will be screened tonight.

AYG was made on a zero budget, but with a lot of love and determination. We’re deeply grateful to be the first recipients of the The Armenia Project - TAP Micro Grants for post-production, which made it possible for us to apply to several international film festivals and share this important story with a wider audience.

Let this screening bring us good luck and mark a beautiful beginning to 2026 ✨

Presenting our current project ‘Generator’! 🚀
In collaboration with (Munich) and .iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii (Armenia), we’re in the midst of a 17-day artistic research residency in Munich. This residency brings together Armenian artists and curators to collaborate with Germany-based collectives and platforms, shaping future site-specific projects for both Gyumri and Munich.
As a newly formed association, we focus on fundraising, NGO sustainability, and development through expert-led trainings and workshops.

The project is funded by the EU as part of the Culture Moves Europe program.

We're thrilled to announce the launch of our project: "GROUND: Unlocking 25 Artistic Voices" ✨

This book is a heartfelt collaboration of 25 unique thinkers, artists, curators, and visionaries from Armenia, Germany, Japan, and China. Together, we explore Armenia's emerging post-Soviet art heritage through the lens of Ground Art Fest 2021 in Gyumri. Each page is a window into the world of site-specific art, cultural dialogues, and the collaborative spirit that brought this incredible festival to life.

With your help, we aim to raise €10,000 to print this book in both Armenian and English, ensuring it reaches even the most remote libraries of Armenia & elsewhere!

Join us on this journey of artistic discovery and cultural exchange. Your support will help bring these vibrant voices to life and foster future creative collaborations. Let's make art accessible to all!

It was an honour to be part of the Super BOOKS4 Expo at the Haus der Kunst in Munich on 3-4 November with our new limited edition printed book 'ground'. And it is even more exciting to share with you the good news that the book is part of the exclusive selection of the International Print Biennale Yerevan art book store until 8 December 2023 at the Charles Aznavour Centre in Yerevan (Address: Verin Antarayin 192).

Short overview to the "Ground": The eponymous site-specific art festival and book seek to be an opportunity for cooperation and networking between creators: multidisciplinary text authors and artists based in Armenia and Germany. Thus, the book is a cross-disciplinary retrospective of the public art projects of the Ground Art Fest in Gyumri 2021. Expanding the conventional boundaries of art documentation, the book assembles a collage of diverse authors, art critics and thinkers, drawing on the discourses of art history, social anthropology and contemporary philosophy through personal experience.

In 2023 we were able to print the first and limited edition of the book with the very precious mission. With this edition we want to raise money by inspiring you to contribute to the realisation of the second edition of ground: meant to be multi exemplar in two parts in both languages: Armenian and English.

Unlimited thanks go to everyone who contributed to the realisation of the book and the festival.

Text authors involved in the ground book:
Aram Pachyan / Karin Grigoryan / Liudmila Kirsanova / Hovhannes Smoyan / Anahit Ghazaryan / Lisa Paland / Syuzanna Ginosyan / Gayane Papikyan / Sona Hovhannisyan / Hanna Eichenhofer / Dimona Stöckle / Hasmik Knyazyan / Julian Momboisse / Ophelia Flassig / Areg Balayan / Vazgen Pahlavuni-Tadevosyan (VAZO) / Armen Ter-Mkrtchyan / Hovhannes Hovhannisyan / Maida Ghazaryan / Lea Limbrunner / Marketa Drozdkova / Vahan Matevosyan / Aleksan Ter-Minasyan / Maria Matinyan
