Something I have to keep reminding myself of while dancing, is that often less is more. We tend to feel that while we are performing we have to do a lot to make the dance look nice. When in reality often the contrary is true. Too much technique put into too little time makes the dance look hectic and nervous, doesn't allow the eye to rest on a dancer's movements and take them in. It also doesn't allow us to convey emotions as effectively.
What works much better is limit the movements we use, stay with a single movement longer, and instead add more variety, playfulness and debth into that movement. Whenever I record myself and compare the change is tremendous!
