𝑆𝑜𝑚𝑚𝑒𝑟𝑓𝑒𝑠𝑡 𝑎𝑡 𝐶𝑎𝑑𝑜𝑟𝑜 👀

Our annual summer festival, which took place this year on August 15 at Cadoro – Center for Art and Science in Mainz-Hechtsheim, was once again a great success. Art lovers from near and far flocked to the city on the Main to celebrate art with us in a summery atmosphere.

📌 Spanning three floors, we opened new exhibitions that have a lot to offer, ranging from established leading international artists to innovative young talents.
On the ground floor, 𝑆𝑒𝑏𝑎𝑠𝑡𝑖𝑎𝑛 𝐷𝑎𝑛𝑛𝑒𝑛𝑏𝑒𝑟𝑔 () and 𝐶𝑎𝑟𝑜𝑙𝑖𝑛 𝐿𝑖𝑒𝑏𝑙 & 𝑁𝑖𝑘𝑜𝑙𝑎𝑠 𝑆𝑐ℎ𝑚𝑖𝑑-𝑃𝑓𝑎̈ℎ𝑙𝑒𝑟(Carolin Liebl and Nikolas Schmid-Pfähler) share the exhibition space while 𝑃ℎ𝑖𝑙𝑖𝑝𝑝 𝑁𝑒ß𝑙𝑒𝑟 & 𝐽𝑢𝑙𝑖𝑎 𝑆𝑒𝑖𝑓𝑟𝑖𝑒𝑑 (Philipp Nessler, ) showcase their works on the 1st floor.
Last but not least, international paper artist 𝐿𝑜𝑟𝑒 𝐵𝑒𝑟𝑡 presents a selection of new and classic works on paper on the 2nd floor.

For our popular , which was officially opened on Saturday August 15, the artist duo Philipp Neßler & Julia Seifried (Philipp Nessler & ) presented a new exhibition titled 𝑶𝒓𝒅𝒊𝒏𝒂𝒓𝒚 𝑻𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈𝒔, which was enthusiastically received by the audience.
The title 𝑂𝑟𝑑𝑖𝑛𝑎𝑟𝑦 𝑇ℎ𝑖𝑛𝑔𝑠 gives away what the work is about: ›ordinary, or 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬‹. But these are – sometimes literally – turned 𝐮𝐩𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐝𝐨𝐰𝐧.

🎨 Here you can discover some of their exhibited works 👀
There is a high-gloss lacquered conductor’s podium lying upside down on the floor, making you want to turn it right side up immediately; in another, box-like object, handrails are mounted but serve as a footrest. But if you were to try to turn the box into the correct position, the golden confetti stored inside would spill out. In the case of a mobile frame consisting of metal rods mounted on a wooden box, the casters protrude upward into the air.

Fabrizio Plessi, a Venetian by choice and pioneer of video art, leaves an indelible mark on contemporary art. We are deeply saddened by his passing and remember with gratitude his long-standing friendship with Dr. Dorothea van der Koelen, La Galleria in Venice and Cadoro Center for Art and Science in Mainz (Germany).
His visionary dialogue between water, technology, matter and memory will continue to inspire.
Fabrizio Plessi (1940–2026).

✨ 𝑺𝒐𝒎𝒎𝒆𝒓𝒇𝒆𝒔𝒕 𝒂𝒕 𝑪𝒂𝒅𝒐𝒓𝒐: August 15th | Part 2 ✨

Summer has clearly arrived, and so – as friends of art and the Dr. Dorothea van der Koelen Gallery already suspect – our summer party is approaching!

🕟 𝟏𝟔:𝟑𝟎 𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐍𝐈𝐒𝐒𝐀𝐆𝐄
🥂 The program continues on the ground floor. There, we have prepared 𝐭𝐰𝐨 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐞𝐱𝐡𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 for you: both Sebastian Dannenberg and the artist duo Carolin Liebl & Nikolas Schmid-Pfähler will each present an exhibition that together occupy the exhibition space.

🎨 𝐒𝐞𝐛𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐃𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐧𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐠 – who was first shown at the gallery in the inaugural edition of the 2015 𝐸𝑥𝑝𝑒𝑟𝑖𝑚𝑒𝑛𝑡𝑒 series – presents the exhibition 𝑬𝒙𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒊𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒆 𝑬𝒙 – 𝑮𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒕 𝑬𝒔𝒄𝒂𝒑𝒆.
Dannenberg situates painting within space. His interventions strike a balance between spatial reference and the autonomous quality of a transportable work. His attempt to assert painting where it does not normally occur – on ceilings, floors, in passageways, as wall-mounted pieces, or in corners – is an additive process that at the same time deprives the viewer of their typical perception of space. The artist works combining minimalist structures and elements with painting and his artistic signature.

Make sure you don't miss it! 👀

🥂 𝐏𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐩 𝐍𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐥𝐞𝐫 & 𝐉𝐮𝐥𝐢𝐚 𝐒𝐞𝐢𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐝 (Philipp Nessler ) will present on the first floor of Cadoro their exhibition 𝑬𝒙𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒊𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒆 𝑬𝒙: 𝑬𝒙𝒉𝒊𝒃𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝑻𝒊𝒕𝒍𝒆 to the public. Neßler and Seifried are already familiar to friends of the Gallery van der Koelen from their participation in the popular 𝐸𝑥𝑝𝑒𝑟𝑖𝑚𝑒𝑛𝑡𝑒 project series, in which young art students independently realize exhibition projects featuring their own works – including press relations and catalog production.

🗣️ Vienna-based art historian 𝐀𝐧𝐭𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐨 𝐐𝐮𝐢𝐧𝐭-𝐕𝐢𝐥𝐚 () – who was also participating in the 𝐸𝑥𝑝𝑒𝑟𝑖𝑚𝑒𝑛𝑡𝑒 series in the past – will deliver the opening address and provide a more detailed overview of the artistic approach of the artist duo.
