At the crossroads of sweetness and suffering, “Komm, süßes Kreuz” (“Come, sweet cross”) is a deeply reflective aria from J.S. Bach's "St. Matthew Passion", embodying a profound union of burden and grace. Sung by baritone Caleb Woo, the music embraces the cross not only as a weight to bear, but as a path toward redemption and inner transformation. The warm, resonant lines of the viola da gamba, performed here by U-En Ng, weave a gentle yet weighty accompaniment, reflecting how pain and hardship can give rise to growth, grace, and ultimately salvation.
