DOK Leipzig is the world‘s oldest festival for documentary and animation film and unique in offering this combination. It is guided by the values of diversity, human dignity, inclusion and peace. The festival presents about 200 artistically outstanding, socially relevant films and XR experiences. Our networking programme DOK Industry is a meeting place for the international documentary film industry, providing networking opportunities in an environment conducive to productivity.

„Hätte ich mich anders verhalten sollen?“, fragt der Großvater mit entwaffnender Offenheit und Verletzlichkeit. Szene für Szene legt Laura Coppens seine Biografie frei, fragt nach Nationalsozialismus, DDR, Nachwendezeit – nach persönlicher Verantwortung, Vergessen und Verdrängung.

🎂 DEFA-Filmgeschichte auf der großen Leinwand erleben! Zum 80. Geburtstag der DEFA gibt es ab heute bis Sonntag ganz besondere Filmtipps im Programm der Schaubühne Lindenfels und dem Luru Kino in der Spinnerei:

Auf euch warten DEFA-Filme von großen Dokumentarfilmschaffenden wie Helke Misselwitz und Gerd Kroske oder satirische Stoffen voller Ironie und feinem Spott über die gesellschaftlichen Verhältnisse, die überraschend aktuellen Blick auf den Alltag in der DDR eröffnen. Dank umfangreicher Restaurierungs- und Digitalisierungsmaßnahmen sind viele DEFA-Werke heute wieder in zeitgemäßer Qualität verfügbar. 💕

🎬🇪🇺 Europe needs cinema. Cinema needs Europe. We're almost at 5,000 signatures! What's going on? 👇👇

For more than 35 years, MEDIA has helped European stories travel across borders supporting independent production, theatrical distribution, festivals, training, and a thriving audiovisual ecosystem across the continent.

Today, that success story is under threat. As part of negotiations on the EU budget for 2028–2034, the European Commission proposes to integrate MEDIA into the new AgoraEU programme. While the overall budget may increase, the current proposal offers no guaranteed, dedicated funding for the film and audiovisual sector. The text remains vague with no assurance that the key actions that made MEDIA successful will continue.

The open letter celebrates MEDIA's role in promoting cultural diversity, artistic freedom, jobs, innovation and European soft power, and calls for the programme's future to be secured and its resources reinforced.

💕“Im Prinzip Familie” wieder auf großer Leinwand in Berlin – zum perfekten Zeitpunkt, denn Daniel Abmas berührender Einblick in den Alltag der Jugendhilfe ist für den Deutschen nominiert!🥳

Der Film begleitet fünf Jungs in einer Wohngruppe im ländlichen Raum, die sich nach einem Zuhause sehnen, und die Menschen, die versuchen ihnen genau das zu geben.

Nach der Vorführung ist Regisseur Daniel Abma für ein Filmgespräch mit im Kino! Wir freuen uns auf ein tolles Gespräch und drücken schon jetzt die Daumen für eine Goldene Lola 🫶

In einem iranischen Dorf, in dem patriarchale Strukturen das Leben bestimmen, setzt sich Sara Shahverdi mit Entschlossenheit für Veränderung ein. Die 37-Jährige, geschieden und kinderlos, ist leidenschaftliche Motorradfahrerin und wurde als erste Frau in den Gemeinderat gewählt. ✊

Der Film von Sara Khaki und Mohammadreza Eyni fängt die herrschenden Machtstrukturen ebenso präzise ein wie Gesten der Solidarität und Selbstbestimmung. Unbedingter Filmtipp zum Deutschen Diversity-Tag!
