🎻 10 years of KU 🎶
Over the past decade, many artists have joined us on stage and shaped what KU has become.
This is just a small selection of soloists and collaborators from the last ten years:

Alan Gilbert
Thomas Adès
Kirill Gerstein
Pekka Kuusisto
Joshua Bell
Jörg Widmann
Antoine Tamestit

Along the way, there have been many concerts, spaces, audiences, and conversations that made these projects possible. Thank you for being part of it 💜

We look forward to having you with us again as guests — and to sharing the stage with many more fantastic artists in the years ahead 🪈🎶

📷🎞️🎶 This is what the Gewandhaus Quartet looked like in 1921, photographed by August Sander. And on the next slide: KLASSIK underground, over 100 years later.

At our next concert, Sander’s photographs come to life as a video projection, merging with the music of KLASSIK underground. His images capture the society of the 20th century—yet still feel strikingly relevant today.

See you on May 6 at the Museum Gunzenhauser! ✨

🎻 KLASSIK underground meets Kafka
📅 Thursday, November 20, 8 PM
📍 Moritzbastei, Leipzig
An evening where music meets literature:
Members of the Gewandhaus Orchestra perform alongside Armin Zarbock.
We journey to 1920s Prague –
Leoš Janáček’s String Quartet No. 1 unfolds like an opera without words, while Bohuslav Martinů’s Third Quartet captures the vibrant sound of Czech modernism.
Between the notes, Kafka’s voice emerges – his words, his world, his time.
A multisensory evening of sound, story, and emotion.

Two years ago we presented our Wunderhorn Festival parallel to the Mahler Festival in Leipzig.

We documented the entire process of our four day festival and produced a short film to showcase the process and question the challenges 21st century orchestras face.

This month we are presenting the documentary, Shifting Sounds, at the Classical:NEXT! Festival in Berlin!
