📷🎞️🎶 This is what the Gewandhaus Quartet looked like in 1921, photographed by August Sander. And on the next slide: KLASSIK underground, over 100 years later.

At our next concert, Sander’s photographs come to life as a video projection, merging with the music of KLASSIK underground. His images capture the society of the 20th century—yet still feel strikingly relevant today.

🎻🖼️ KLASSIK underground marks the 100th anniversary of Otto Dix’s haunting etching cycle Der Krieg with a powerful concert merging music and visual art.

Experience the horrors of war through Dix’s stark imagery, brought to life in a video presentation by Remo Rink, alongside deeply moving works by Kurtág and Shostakovich — performed by members of the Gewandhaus Orchestra.

Two years ago we presented our Wunderhorn Festival parallel to the Mahler Festival in Leipzig.

We documented the entire process of our four day festival and produced a short film to showcase the process and question the challenges 21st century orchestras face.

This month we are presenting the documentary, Shifting Sounds, at the Classical:NEXT! Festival in Berlin!
