We are an independent mobile Berlin-based theatre group. We develop and produce English-language or We are constantly refining our trend setting concept.
Founded in 1985, English Theater Platypus, is one of the most outstanding and productive independent theater groups in Berlin. Since 1992, our concept has been to present plays in English to young German audiences. Platypus is THE English language-theater for children’s and youth-theater in Berlin. Having no theater of our own, we co-operate with numerous Berlin theaters but most of our performanc
es are in the BKA Theater in Kreuzberg. Approximately 100 performances take place in Berlin annually. On top of this, we also go on tour with our productions both in other parts of Germany and in other countries. More than 20,000 young people see our shows each year. The actors, authors and musicians working for Platypus Theater are from numerous English-speaking countries such as Australia, England, Ireland, India, South Africa or the U.S.A. Because of our multi- national ensemble the “foreignness” that is a central theme in our plays is not only played out, it is real: with the foreign faces, mentalities and experiences of the participants.

"Icarus F**ked Up" - Premiere 12/2022
Platypus' latest show throws us into the life of a regular family stuck in that typical modern Labyrinth of silbling rivalry, parental stress and growing up under one roof that is slowly but surely caving in.
We meet our protagonist in the middle of a mental health crisis. Sam is 15 and suffering from anxiety and panic attacks. Lately he’s being followed by a strange shadow, with horns. His own personal minotaur has come to stay. His family, teachers and friends are at a loss; until the day he takes a leap of faith and decides he’s going to fly.
„Icarus - F**ked Up“ shines a light on the stigma, fears and prejudices surrounding young people in emotional distress.

Just Thirteen (2018)
What are two American teenagers up to?
The twins Katy and Tyler have just turned thirteen. They are finding out that life gets complicated when the body is changing. Emotions are on a roller coaster and friends and family seem to be going crazy. Tyler is surprised that his gaming buddy would rather go out with a girl then play with him. Katy struggles with school work while trying to keep her relationship with her Best Friend Forever from becoming Big Finished Forever. Helpful talks with mom and dad only make things more painful. Katy would love to just disappear and wait for her thirteenth year to be over- but there are some things in life that you just have to get through...

iTALK 2021
17 year old G (known to their* friends and family as Ros) explore themselves and their identity by creating a space online to share their thoughts. Lanny just started at the same school. He is lonely and wants to fit in but due to the lockdown making friends is difficult. Playing music on his guitar Dylan is the only thing getting him through.
In a chance meeting after school pre-lockdown Lanny and G discover a common interest in music. They get to know each other better on social media and online platforms throughout the pandemic. Lanny becomes worried about G’s well-being and visits them during lockdown. During an online class, fellow student Olly presses Lanny for details about this meeting with G, and Lanny allows him to believe that they had s*x. Gossip spreads. G ends their friendship with Lanny and continues to struggle with their own journey and the lack of awareness of the people around them. G’s refusal to forgive him forces Lanny to start reflecting on his behaviour and what kind of person he wants to be.

iTalk
Premiere: 07.10.2021
Director: Rebecca Scott
Text: Charlie Dupré
Ros and Lanny go to the same school, although being in different year groups, have only noticed each other from afar. After a chance encounter leaves them both weak at the knees, they are keen to see where their connection might lead. But Lockdown has hit! And, for now at least, their budding romance can only blossom virtually. How can they continue nourishing it, given the new limitations? And will social media be a help or a hindrance, in their bid to discover who they really are? iTalk is a dynamic new multimedia musical play that examines the effects of the recent restrictions on young people’s ability to connect with the world around them.
Presenting the writer of our new play iTalk - Charlie Dupré!
Premiere: 07.10.2021!
Charlie is a playwright, actor and spoken word artist from London. His first full-length show, The Stories of Shakey P re-imagined the Bard as a playground battle rapper, and premiered at the Edinburgh Festival in 2012, before showings at the Arcola, the Roundhouse, Trafalgar Studios and the RSC. In 2016 he won the Rising Star Award at the Let's All Be Free Film Festival for his Arts Council-funded short film, Faustus: Remixed, and the following year, his first ensemble play, Macblair told the story of Tony Blair as a Macbeth-style tragicomedy. It played the Brighton and Edinburgh Fringes to critical success, and was one of The Scotsman’s Top 6 hot picks for political shows 2017. In 2019, it's sequel, Boris Rex was nominated for an Off-Westend Award during its run at the Tristan Bates Theatre, London.
