Installation Highlight Metavolution 🪐

As the visitors navigated the immense and various concrete spaces of the Alte Münze basement, one could encounter this intriguing yet seducing installation:
Metavolution invites the viewer to sit down and, by wearing an electronic head device, experiences their own visuals projected onto the wall ~ generated by their brain waves!
Thus generating geometrical patterns according to brain activity 🧠

Das zivile Auge im Mittelmeer

We were thrilled to welcome Sea-Watch into the Corona Culture space. Not only did they host a magnificent evening, but they also transformed one of the Alte Münze rooms into an impressive and touching site specific installation!

Civil sea rescue – the civil eye somewhere in the Mediterranean, somewhere in the field of tension between helplessness and activism. The site-specific installation created by Sea-Watch is dedicated to offering explicit insights into the political adversities in the Mediterranean.

This project is of particular importance to us, the curators of CORONA CULTURE, as the ongoing human catastrophe of thousands of people dying on their journey to safer life circumstances disappeared from mainstream media since pandemic-related content flooded the news over the past 1.5 years. We want to give space here to what seems to have been forgotten and remind ourselves and the public not to turn away from this situation. On the contrary: in times like these, we should become even more aware and take direct action against injustices.

WhARTever should happen

A dance / Theatre - performance pice ~

Drawing on the traditions and heritage of Latin American indigenous culture, the historical treatment and current conditions of local farmers, three performers – descending from these communities - reflect on their own paths and the journey’s of their respective families. By taking their own personal lives as a material, they offer a genuine and honest reflection on the history of their ancestors, but also on the current political, social and environmental situation in South America today, ultimately coming to the conclusion that little appears to have changed and, that some aspects may even have worsened; yet that the strength was and is contained in the positive essence of these people.

Kunde_Wolf’s site specific installation As a kid, I used to go tidepooling for Corona Culture visualizes the ubiquitous presence of plastic in all „natural“ spheres and the continuous and irreversible changes to even the smallest ecosystems. This work was realised in collaboration with Kunststofferei, a Precious Plastics workspace in Leipzig.

ORBIS LIGNI – Kinetic Installation with Dead Wood

Living and dying - an everlasting cycle. But what does life mean? And when is something dead?

Deadwood enlarged in a concave mirror. The deadwood is part of a perfect ecosystem. Dead matter is transformed back into minerals to create new habitat.

The mirror is an object that is rarely found in nature and it always shows us only an illusion - never reality. In the mirror, our right arm becomes the left arm of the person opposite. The mirror lets us perceive nature differently - light, shadows, lines that shift again and again and show us the complexity of the familiar.
