Scoring in Immersive Formats at Krzysztof Penderecki European Centre of Music
🎤 A few days outside of the city noise, a beautiful concert hall, and a group of composers, producers and musicians exploring immersive sound.
During the Audiovisual Forum, part of the Kraków Film Music Festival, young composers, finalists of the Young Talent Award 2026, recorded their pieces with the help of engineers Gianluca Massimo and Wil Jones (AIR Studios), with a small ensemble of strings, woodwinds, guitar, harp, piano and percussion.
Alongside classic stereo and surround techniques, the team built an immersive array based on Prof. Hyunkook Lee's ESMA-3D: six SCHOEPS MK 21 for the horizontal layer, two MK 41 for height 🎶
Successful immersive experiences start at the compositional stage. Analysing the scores and artists' intentions allowed the team to pull some elements to further enhance the experience: string harmonics played one by one around the full circle, creating a stationary movement, or woodwind breath travelling side to side
Every composer left with inspiration and their own stems, ready to experiment with their own ideas.
