"Is this fashion or is this death?"

Heute Abend laden wir euch ein, über das Vertraute hinauszugehen. Das Gewöhnliche hinter euch zu lassen. Wo Schönheit nicht betrachtet … sondern erlebt wird.

Der berühmteste Vampir der Literaturgeschichte aus Bram Stokers Schauerroman von 1897 wird zu einem Modedesign-Gott des 21. Jahrhunderts, der von der Schönheit anderer lebt, um seinen Hunger nach Unsterblichkeit zu stillen.

Das Staatsballett Karlsruhe baut mit diesem abendfüllenden Handlungsballett von Kenneth Tindall mit einer Originalkomposition von Alexandra Harwood, live gespielt von der Badischen Staatskapelle, seinen programmatischen Schwerpunkt auf einem erzählerischen Ballett-Theater weiter aus.

Tonight, we invite you to step beyond the familiar. To leave the ordinary behind. Where beauty isn’t merely observed… but experienced.

The most famous vampire in literary history, from Bram Stoker’s 1897 horror novel, becomes a 21st-century fashion design god who feeds on the beauty of others to satisfy his hunger for immortality.

With this full-length narrative ballet by Kenneth Tindall, featuring an original composition by Alexandra Harwood performed live by the Badische Staatskapelle, the Karlsruhe State Ballet further expands its programmatic focus on narrative ballet theater.

Here’s a sneak peek from one of our very first orchestra rehearsals, where the sound of “Dracula“ began to come alive. The atmosphere, the tension, the pulse… it all starts here.

A huge thank you to our incredible Badische Staatskapelle Karlsruhe, led by Daniel Carlberg, and to composer Alexandra Harwood for shaping this powerful musical world.

Through guided improvisation, you’ll discover your body’s natural way of moving. We’ll play with weight, texture, and dynamics, from light and floating to grounded and powerful, and see how simple movements can grow into expressive sequences.

No pressure, no expectations…just curiosity, creativity, and movement.

Last night, we said goodbye to “Leuchtfeuer”.

What began as a creative journey became something truly special shared moments in the studio, on stage, and with all of you. Each piece, each artist, each performance brought its own light, its own story.

We are deeply grateful to the choreographers and dancers who gave so much of themselves to this evening. Your passion, trust, and artistry made “Leuchtfeuer” what it was.

It’s never easy to let go… but some projects stay with you long after the final curtain. ✨

🇩🇪 Gestern Abend haben wir uns von „ Leuchtfeuer” verabschiedet.

Was als kreativer Prozess begann, wurde zu etwas ganz Besonderem gemeinsame Momente im Studio, auf der Bühne und mit euch im Publikum. Jedes Stück, jede:r Künstler:in, jede Vorstellung hat ihr eigenes Licht und ihre eigene Geschichte getragen.

Wir sind zutiefst dankbar für die Choreograf:innen und Tänzer:innen, die so viel von sich in diesen Abend gegeben haben. Eure Leidenschaft, euer Vertrauen und eure Kunst haben „Leuchtfeuer” zu dem gemacht, was es war.

Es ist nie leicht, loszulassen… aber manche Projekte bleiben weit über den letzten Vorhang hinaus. ✨

With “Dracula”, we welcome Kenneth Tindall to the Staatsballett Karlsruhe.

Regarded as one of the most outstanding dance-makers of his generation, Tindall is Resident Choreographer at Northern Ballet and works internationally as a freelance choreographer and director. A former principal dancer, his first professional commission already received the Production Prize at the International Choreographic Competition in Hanover, marking the beginning of a remarkable career.

Since then, he has created over 30 works across ballet, dance, and theatre, earning critical acclaim and nominations for major awards, including the National Dance Awards. His artistic language extends beyond the stage into film, where he also works as a creative director for dance on screen.

With “Dracula”, inspired by Dracula by Bram Stoker, Tindall presents his first creation in Germany, reimagining the iconic figure as a modern myth, moving between fashion, desire, and the eternal search for youth and immortality. A world of beauty, obsession, and dark longing, brought to life through powerful storytelling and movement.
