After 30 years, our Artistic Director Thorsten Schmidt will step down following the upcoming anniversary season 2026/27.

In doing so, he is consciously making way for the next generation.

Handing over the festival to it is both a personal commitment and a reflection of what has always defined Heidelberger Frühling: staying in tune with the time.

Since co-founding the festival in 1997, Thorsten Schmidt has played a defining role in its development.

Following the anniversary season, he will continue to support Heidelberger Frühling as Chair of the Heidelberger Frühling Musikstiftung.

🫶 We are excited to celebrate the upcoming anniversary season together with him and to share one more extraordinary festival journey under his wonderful artistic leadership.

✨ Stay tuned: we are revealing our anniversary season’s programme tomorrow and everything it has in store for you!
