Warum spielen Menschen? Seit Jahrtausenden treten wir im Spiel gegeneinander an, vertrauen auf Glück, schlüpfen in andere Rollen oder verlieren uns für einen Moment in einer eigenen Welt aus Regeln und Fantasie. Spielen verbindet Menschen über Kulturen und Altersgrenzen hinweg – vom Brettspiel bis zum digitalen Multiplayer-Game.
Die Ausstellung LET’S PLAY! lädt ein auf eine Reise durch die Spielkulturen der Welt: von historischen Brett- und Glücksspielen über Spielzeuge und rituelle Spiele bis hin zu Videospielen, virtuellen Welten und Künstlicher Intelligenz als neuem Gegenüber.
LET’S PLAY! ist auch eine Ausstellung zum Mitmachen – mit Spieltischen, interaktiven Stationen und vielfältigen Angeboten für alle Generationen. Sie lädt aber auch zum Nachdenken ein: über Regeln und Regelbrüche, über Zugang und Ausschluss sowie über die Frage, was bleibt, wenn Maschinen besser spielen als Menschen.
Für alle, die gerne spielen, gespielt haben – oder neugierig sind, warum Menschen immer spielen werden.

The Playing Human between Culture and AI

Why do humans play? For thousands of years, we have competed in games, trusted to luck, slipped into other roles or lost ourselves for a moment in a world of rules and imagination. Play connects people across cultures and generations – from the board game to the digital multiplayer game.
The exhibition LET'S PLAY! invites you on a journey through the play cultures of the world: from historical board and games of chance to toys and ritual games, from video games and virtual worlds to artificial intelligence as a new counterpart.
LET'S PLAY! is also an exhibition to join in with – with gaming tables, interactive stations and a wide range of activities for all generations. But it also invites reflection: on rules and the breaking of rules, on access and exclusion, and on the question of what remains when machines play better than people.
For everyone who loves to play, who used to play – or who is curious to know why people will always play.
