This is Dipcadi serotinum. ⁣
Jacint marró. Spätes Schweifblatt. Brown Harebell. Uropétale tardif. Nazareno. ⁣
⁣
It looks like a wilting plant. That is the point — its drooping brown-orange flowers are camouflage. A disguise so perfect that most people walk straight past it. Dipcadi serotinum is in regression across much of its territory. Habitat loss, land use change, the slow disappearance of the open landscapes it needs.⁣

One of the most overlooked plants in the world. It grows everywhere — roadsides, meadows, cracks in the pavement. And precisely because of that, nobody sees it.⁣

Used for centuries as medicine — anti-inflammatory, wound-healing, expectorant. One of the nine sacred herbs of the Anglo-Saxon tradition. A plant that has been with us, quietly, for thousands of years.⁣

This is Amelanchier arborea. The serviceberry. The shadbush. June berry. Saskatoon.⁣

A tree with many names — each one a clue to how deeply embedded it is in the lives of those who live alongside it. It blooms when the ground thaws. A sign, for centuries, that easier times are coming.⁣
⁣
Robin Wall Kimmerer places this tree at the centre of everything in her book The Serviceberry — a web connecting fungi, plants, insects, birds, animals and people. A gift economy where nothing is hoarded and everything keeps moving.⁣

The berries are a gift to the birds. The birds carry the seeds. The seeds become trees. The trees offer berries again.⁣
⁣

L’Axel m’ha enviat la primera rosa que comença a florir al nostre roser. Jo he pogut passejar pel meu poble per comprar roses i llibres a la meva família.⁣
