Wild carrot season. The meadow is full of them.
Daucus carota subsp. carota — 9 portraits

This is Dipcadi serotinum. ⁣
Jacint marró. Spätes Schweifblatt. Brown Harebell. Uropétale tardif. Nazareno. ⁣
⁣
It looks like a wilting plant. That is the point — its drooping brown-orange flowers are camouflage. A disguise so perfect that most people walk straight past it. Dipcadi serotinum is in regression across much of its territory. Habitat loss, land use change, the slow disappearance of the open landscapes it needs.⁣

This is Plantago lanceolata. Ribwort plantain. Spitzwegerich. L’herba de cinc-costures.⁣
⁣
One of the most overlooked plants in the world. It grows everywhere — roadsides, meadows, cracks in the pavement. And precisely because of that, nobody sees it.⁣
⁣
Used for centuries as medicine — anti-inflammatory, wound-healing, expectorant. One of the nine sacred herbs of the Anglo-Saxon tradition. A plant that has been with us, quietly, for thousands of years.⁣
⁣
We step over it every day.⁣
⁣
When did you last stop to look at it?⁣

This is Amelanchier arborea. The serviceberry. The shadbush. June berry. Saskatoon.⁣
⁣
A tree with many names — each one a clue to how deeply embedded it is in the lives of those who live alongside it. It blooms when the ground thaws. A sign, for centuries, that easier times are coming.⁣
⁣
Robin Wall Kimmerer places this tree at the centre of everything in her book The Serviceberry — a web connecting fungi, plants, insects, birds, animals and people. A gift economy where nothing is hoarded and everything keeps moving.⁣
⁣
The berries are a gift to the birds. The birds carry the seeds. The seeds become trees. The trees offer berries again.⁣
⁣
“The currency is relationship, expressed as gratitude.”⁣
⁣
We photographed this portrait and offered it here. Consider it part of the same economy.⁣
⁣
Have you read The Serviceberry?⁣

Avui és Sant Jordi. Roses i llibres. ⁣
⁣
⁣
Bona diada de Sant Jordi!⁣

This is Symphytum officinale. Comfrey. Echte Beinwell. Consolda.⁣
⁣
A plant that heals. One of the oldest medicinal herbs in European tradition — used for centuries to treat wounds, inflammation and broken bones. Its name says it all: symphytum, from the Greek, to unite, to make whole.⁣
⁣
It appears in Hamnet. Agnes would have known it well.⁣
⁣
Today is Earth Day. A good day to stop and look at what the earth has been quietly offering us all along.⁣
⁣
Have you ever used comfrey?⁣
⁣

14/04/2026

This is Allium ursinum. Wild garlic. Bärlauch. All silvestre.⁣
We forage the leaves, before the flower comes. But we photograph the bloom.⁣
Two ways of looking at the same life.⁣
⁣
Have you ever foraged it?⁣
