Eine Buchung ist in der Regel auch kurzfristig möglich, solange noch Termine offen sind. In der Wunderkammer können unsere Gäste die zahlreichen Geschichte(n) hinter unseren einzigartigen Objekten entdecken. Angeleitet werden unsere Besucher dabei vom Doktor h

öchstpersönlich. Dieser entführt Sie in sein Kabinett, um Ihnen allerlei kuriose, vergessene und künstlerische Objekte aus aller Welt vorzustellen. Dazu erzählt er Ihnen Geschichten aus alter und neuer Zeit, unterhaltsam, anekdotisch, oft unglaublich, aber (meistens ;) ) wahr! Und Sie sind stets dazu angehalten, mitzumachen! Tauschen Sie sich mit uns aus, erzählen Sie eigene Geschichten! Und auch anfassen und ausprobieren ist bei uns (nach Aufforderung) erlaubt!

*Unsere Naturalia sind entweder antik, nachgebildet, stammen aus tierärztlichen Sammlungen oder von Präparatoren, die nur natürlich verstorbene Tiere oder sog. 'Abfälle' zu pädagogischen Zwecken retten und aufbereiten.

🇬🇧⬇️ Snake eyes! 🐍👀 – this expression might be familiar to some dice enthusiasts. It refers to rolling a pair of ones, 🎲🎲. Traditionally, this is a result few players would wish for, but depending on the game, it can also mean exactly the opposite. 🤔
Incidentally, in the Wunderkammer – as with many of our exhibits – our two dice serve as a subtle hint at a whole series of little stories… you can discover one of them right here:

🇬🇧 “The wildest animal there [in India], however, is the unicorn (monoceros), whose build resembles that of a horse, but which has the head of a stag, the feet of an elephant and the tail of a boar; it roars loudly and bears a black horn two cubits long on its forehead. It is said that this animal cannot be captured alive.”
At least, that is what Pliny the Elder wrote in his "Natural History".
The unicorn has certainly undergone an astonishing evolution when one compares this account with its appearance as we know it today. 🦄😉

🇬🇧 In historical Wunderkammern, ivory was one of the most sought-after natural materials. Its almost white colour gives it a particularly elegant appearance, and it can be carved with great precision. As a result, the remains of countless elephants were used to create vast quantities of sculptures, goblets and other handcrafted works of art. 🐘🫤
Whilst in the 16th and 17th centuries people were still convinced that humans could dispose of animals as they pleased and were therefore entitled to hunt and process them accordingly, we fortunately take a much more critical view of our treatment of nature today.
This is just one of the reasons why our Wunderkammer can and should not look exactly like its historical counterparts. We were therefore all the more delighted when an ethically acceptable alternative in the form of a fossilised mammoth tusk was donated to our collection. A material that is now also used by craftspeople and restorers as a substitute for traditional ivory. 🦣🦷

🇬🇧⬇️ Wow! Heute sind wir das erste Mal mehr als 12.000 auf Instagram! 😯
Da wird es definitiv Zeit, mal wieder Danke zu sagen! An alle, die regelmäßig unseren Beiträgen folgen, liken und teilen, die uns direkt im Museum besuchen oder unser kleines gemeinnütziges Kulturprojekt anderweitig unterstützen! ❤️ 🥹
Gerade ist bei uns megaviel zu tun und wenig Zeit mal durchzuatmen. Da hilft jedes bisschen Rückenwind. 😊 Danke!.. und morgen geht's wieder weiter mit wunderbarem Infotainment. 😉

🇬🇧⬇️ Tadaa! 🤗 Unser neues Schaufenster ist fertig! Leider ist es etwas schwer zu fotografieren. 🙈 Wir hoffen, es gefällt Euch trotzdem. Uns gefällt es in natura auf jeden Fall sehr gut und wir hatten viel Freude daran, wie immer eine kleine Geschichte mit der gewählten Einrichtung zu erzählen. 😊
Besonders stolz sind wir auf den schönen alten Fernseher, den der Doktor schon vor einiger Zeit hergerichtet hat und der nun endlich zum Einsatz kommt! 📺😍
🇬🇧 Ta-da! 🤗 Our new shop window is ready! Unfortunately, it’s a bit tricky to photograph. 🙈 We hope you like it anyway. We certainly love it in real life, and we’ve had great fun, as always, telling a little story through the chosen décor. 😊

🇬🇧⬇️ Wir starten auf Followerwunsch heute eine Reihe mit persönlichen Lieblingsstücken aus unserer Sammlung. 🥰
Den Anfang macht dieser Miniaturautomat aus der Schmiede von 🐀🐀🐀
Dargestellt ist hier der "Rattenfänger von Hameln", der angetrieben durch eine winzige Handkurbel drei kleine Ratten zum tanzen bringt. 🎶 Die Liebe des Doktors zu Miniaturen, kleinen süßen Nagetieren und Automatenmechanik macht aus diesem kleinen Kunststück schlicht und einfach ein Lieblingsstück. 😍 Gefällt er Euch auch so gut?
(Schon gewusst? Tatsächlich ist Hameln, der Schauplatz der bekannten Rattenfängersage, gar nicht weit von Hann. Münden, dem Heimatort der Wunderkammer, entfernt. 😉)
🇬🇧 At the request of our followers, we’re launching a series today featuring our personal favourite pieces from our collection. 🥰
We’re kicking things off with this miniature automaton from the workshop of 🐀🐀🐀
It depicts the “Pied Piper of Hamelin”, who, powered by a tiny hand crank, makes three little rats dance. 🎶 The Doctor’s love of miniatures, cute little rodents and automaton mechanics makes this little work of art quite simply a favourite. 😍 Do you like it as much as we do?
(Did you know? Hamelin, the setting for the famous Pied Piper legend, is actually not far from Hann. Münden, the home of the Wunderkammer. 😉)

🇬🇧 Did you know? Unfortunately, the cartoons of our childhood lied to us. 😭
🐢 cannot leave their shells (like a hermit crab leaves its shell); the shell is part of their skeleton.
The exhibit shown here is the skeleton of a red-eared slider turtle, with its shell opened for demonstration purposes. (The animal was bred in Germany and died of natural causes.)

🇬🇧 It is not uncommon for our guests to say that they can dive into "another world" with a visit here at the Wunderkammer.
Of course, this feeling goes hand in hand with the special look of this place. Nevertheless, it always makes us smile. Because after all, we're not actually doing anything other than capturing the everyday world and its stories and (admittedly in a concentrated form) exposing them again in the Doctor's cabinet 😉.
But as Schopenhauer so aptly observed... even in the same environment, everyone lives in a different world. 🌍🌏
