The Motorship Stubnitz is an 80 meters long ex East German fishing vessel from 1964, transformed in 1992 into an independent and moving platform. It is a cultural center for contemporary live music, club culture, performances, exhibitions and conventions. Many of the concerts and performances have been recorded on both audio and video and preserved in a media archive down in the ship‘s belly. In 2
013, 2017, 2018 and 2021 the Stubnitz received the federal award ‚Applaus‘ for culturally outstanding live music program. It is a seagoing industrial monument and culture.spaceship in full operation, living museum and cultural heritage. Stubnitz has always remained outside of any scene or genre. We are a team of volunteers and like-minded individuals who take great passion to make this sanctuary for culture and creativity work and keep it open for everyone.

JAY POP hat keinen Führerschein und weint manchmal, wenn er einen guten Song hört. Sozialisiert durch die Hymnen der 90ger Jahre und die musikalische Früherziehung von Frau Fehrling, lernt der Junge, Musik mit allen Sinnesorganen zu begreifen und Gefühle als Essenz seines Songwritings einzusetzen. Seine Songs entstehen mal skizzenhaft, mal detailliert aber immer mit Herz. Bremen, Buntentor seit 1985.

Throwback on the 2nd phase of in January/February this year: Hyper rhythmical explosive trio aka with dancers and seen through the eye of Ian Wainaina . The residencies took place in Hamburg, hosted by us, Stubnitz. Each collaboration performed at the very heart of the ship before taking over Berlin's for a second round of performances.

1) Sofía Salvo is a baritone sax player, improviser, and composer from Buenos Aires, Argentina, currently living in Berlin, Germany. Her performances include a strong combination between acoustic noisy sounds and dark introspective melodies.
2 ) Isabel Anders is a Pianist and Composer based in Berlin. She let ideas and influences merge in a non-elitist way into a timeless form of expression.
3) Edith Steyer is a free improvising and composing clarinet and saxophone player with her roots in jazz. As a former student for social anthropology she is also interested in ethnic music. She is dedicated to the exploration of her instruments and prepares them with elements from every day life. She experiments with drum skins, elements like wind and water and lately also with analogue electronic devices and feedback. Aside from working on a solo concept, her foremost interest is to create intelligently woven nets of interaction and noisy sound scapes with other artists. She is also regularly working with musical theatre groups.
4) Samin Son appreciates playing with gongs, voice, guitar, keys, drums/computers.. depending on the availability of arrangements/instruments/situations of collaborations and/or intended trials. Draws and moves depending on the contexts and/or when the spontaneity/schedule calls. Likes to present documented media in excerpted formats. Enjoys to select tracks and push buttons from time to time as well.
5) Dr. Nexus is a berlin based electronic, electro acustic and voice improviser and visual artist. He is founder & co-founder of several sound projects such as The Ultimate Bruital Orchestra, Busæxus, Müllers Revenge, Pleasure Force … he also founded and runs many mainly sound art based events like Bruital Events (bruital nights, bruital furore and many more).

1) Rieko Okuda is a pianist, viola player and a composer from Japan. After many musically adventures around the globe from japan to usa to europe she is now home in the jazz, free jazz & improvised music scene and plays solo and in many different constellations
2) Marcello Silvio Busato is an Berlin based artist. His musical research has led him to develop an original approach to the drums and percussion also through the use of extensive techniques. He’s exploring the expressive capacities of his instrument, developing his own languages, with a wide vocabulary of dynamics, densities and speeds, pushing the acoustic limits of the instrument and various percussive objects.
3) Samuel Hall is a drummer, percussionist and interdisciplinary artist based in Berlin, Germany. Engaging the meeting points of electro-acoustic and acoustic music through extended technique, electronics, object and drum preparation. Informed by a strong improvisational language, his music draws on a deep sonic palette that investigates evolving musical structures, timbres, and sound systems. As an interdisciplinary artist, Hall has worked with painters, dancers and visual designers creating interactive multi-layered works that challenge the norms of performance.
4) Antti Virtaranta is a bassist and composer. He studied jazz music in Philadelphia. In 2011 he moved to Berlin to focus on improvised and experimental music. He is active in multiple groups collaborating, not only with musicians, but visual artists and dancers as well. His bass playing is a mixture of pulses and rhythms in a stream of tones and sonic textures.
5) Guido Kohn is a cellist/string player, improviser and noise artist born in Buenos Aires, now based in Berlin. Nowadays he works on the sonic possibilities born out of the dialogue between instrument, preparations, digitallity and analogic effects.

Norwegian noise-drone duo CHATTERMARK creates soundscapes and walls of sound. The duo consists of John Lilja – electric bass and effects, and Gunhild Seim – trumpet and effects. Their self-titled first album came out on Drollehålå Records in September 2022. Inspirations for the music come from such diverse sources as Sunn 0))), Anthony Pateras and Franz Hautzinger.

Für das Konzert von Ron Minis wurde ein Flügel mit dem Kran auf dem Achterdeck am Tresen in der Verarbeitung vorbei bis in den Laderaum 4 geladen. Es war leicht windig, aber dank der erfahrenen Crew lief alles reibungslos.

Ron Minis ist ein Multiinstrumentalist, der mit virtuosen und rhythmischen Pattern zum Träumen und Tanzen zugleich einlädt. Mit seinem Jazz-Trio bewegt er sich zwischen lyrischen Phrasen und energetischen Rhythmen. Seine Songs sind von einer Vielfältigkeit kaum zu übertreffen.
Nicht ohne Grund lässt er sich von Genregrenzen nicht beeindrucken, nennt im gleichen Atemzug auch "Death-Jazz" oder "Metal-Jazz" als Heimat seiner Musik. Wenn er während der Konzerte zur E-Gitarre greift und der Übergang zum, über einen zweiten Gitarren-Amp, verzerrten Flügel verschwimmt, wird klar, was er damit meint. Doch die Nah-Östliche Kultur Israels oder der Einfluss vonKünstlern wie Tigran Hamasyan lassen Genre-Gedanken gleich wieder verschwinden....

Rosa Anschütz is a German artist, composer and vocalist based in Berlin and Vienna. Anschütz investigates and utilises various fields of Transmedia Arts with a focus on sound, object and scenery including photography and film, creating a collage within and beyond her music.
As a performer Anschütz embeds her reverberated voice - oscillating between singing and spoken words - in the delicately constructed sound structures that she creates with guitar, bass, drum machine and modular synthesizer. Her voice softly floats without losing its depth through the ethereal and hypnotic sound spheres - from the sacred, gloomy mood reminiscent of Nico to the post-punk aura of Joy Divisions.

Sie hat nicht nur Kirchengeschichte geschrieben und sie gehörte zu den bekanntesten Persönlichkeiten Hamburgs: Vor 30 Jahren, im April 1992 wurde Maria Jepsen zur weltweit ersten lutherischen Bischöfin gewählt. Ein Signal des feministischen und liberalen Aufbruchs in der evangelisch-protestantischen Kirche. 18 Jahre später, im Juli 2010 trat sie von ihrem Amt zurück. Maria Jepsen zog damit die Konsequenzen aus dem Missbrauchsskandal um einen Ahrensburger Pastor. Sie lebt seit vielen Jahren mit ihrem Ehemann in Nordfriesland und engagiert sich ehrenamtlich für die KZ-Gedenkstätte Husum-Schwesing.
Kurz vor dem 30. Jahrestag ihrer Wahl zur Bischöfin kommt Maria Jepsen am 29. März zur Premiere der neuen Gesprächsreihe „Echolot“ auf die MS Stubnitz in der Hamburger Hafencity. Mit den beiden Hamburger Journalist*innen Ada von der Decken und Jörn Straehler-Pohl spricht sie über gesellschaftlichen Aufbruch und persönliches Scheitern, den Zeitenwandel und die blinden Flecken in der Kirche und die wachsende Bedeutung einer lebendigen Erinnerungskultur.
„Echolot – Gespräche auf der MS Stubnitz“ ist das neue Hamburger Talkformat. Initiiert haben es die Hamburger Journalist*innen Ada von der Decken, Axel Schröder, Siri Keil und Jörn Straehler-Pohl. Jeden letzten Dienstag im Monat laden sie Gesprächspartner*innen ein, die Hamburg prägen und geprägt haben - unabhängig davon, ob sie prominent sind, oder nicht. Rising pop star Dorian Electra (pronouns: they/them/theirs) makes music that defies gender norms. In the past year, their work has gained a rapidly growing queer cult following as well as critical praise from Pitchfork, Billboard, Paper Magazine, The Fader, and more. Each one of Electra’s high-concept singles (“Career Boy,” “Man To Man,” “Flamboyant,” “Daddy Like”) has been accompanied by a hyper-stylized music video that helps build a bigger world around each song than the music alone. Electra has collaborated and toured with pop visionary Charli XCX and Russian group Pussy Riot as well as played major pride festivals across the US. 2019 welcomes the release of Dorian Electra’s debut full-length album “Flamboyant,” an unapologetically over-the top work of experimental pop with a heavy-metal, baroque twist that is being supported by their first-ever headlining tour.

Die Live-Sendung mit Artists, Gesprächsgästen und Clips aus dem Stubnitz Konzertarchiv. Mit der 33. Mit PoiL & Junko Ueda treffen die experimentelle Rockband PoiL + Benoit Lecomte (Bassist der Band Ni) aus Frankreich/Lyon auf die japanische Satsuma-Biwa-Spielerin und Sängerin Junko Ueda. Die Kompositionen drehen sich um das japanische Epos 'Heike-Monogatari' aus dem 13. Jahrhundert. Dieses Projekt, aus dem legendären Kollektiv und Label "Dur et Doux" ist eine großartige Gelegenheit, ein neues musikalisches Universum zu erforschen: Eine europäische supermoderne musikalische Formation und eine alte traditionelle japanische Musik treffen hier aufeinander. Dabei verschmelzen perkussiver, experimenteller Prog- und Mathrock mit fließendem, buddhistischem Shomyo-Gesang und der viersaitigen Halslaute Uedas.

Wir starten nach der Sommerpause mit einem experimentellen Kracher: THE END ist eine All-Star-Gruppe um den schwedischen Jazz-Punk-Extrem-Saxophonisten Mats Gustafsson und die in Äthiopien geborene Sängerin Sofia Jernberg. Mats war 1998 schon mit Peter Brötzmann an Bord, und liest man sich das musikalische Wirken aller 5 THE END Musiker*innen durch, wimmeln die vielen Namen und Projekte geradezu über die Netzhaut. Mit "Allt Är Intet" kommt der 5er mit ihrem 2. Album auf Tour, »expect energy, expect beauty, expect the end«. Stilistisch lässt sich das, wie zu erwarten, kaum festnageln. THE END ist ein ernsthafter Versuch, neue Perspektiven zeitgenössischer experimenteller Musik zu schaffen - wo Elemente von Geräuschen, Melodien und Ebenen extremer Energie mit den verschiedenen Hintergründen und Erfahrungen der Musiker und ihrer Arbeit in Genres wie Free Jazz, skandinavischem Folk, Noise, Alternative Rock, frei improvisierter Musik, zeitgenössischer Musik, mauretanischer Musik, Oper, Grindcore, Jazz und ähnlichen Aktivitäten interagieren können!

Nach 25 Jahren DDR-Hochseefischerei als Kühl- und Transportschiff wurde die Stubnitz nach der Wende zum mobilen Kunst- und Kulturschiff umgebaut. Seither wurden 22 nordeuropäische Hafenstädte bespielt. Bereits 28 Jahre ist die Stubnitz nun Plattform für Recherche, Präsentation und Dokumentation innovativer Musik und Kultur. Ihre Stahlarchitektur bietet dabei einen einzigartigen Raum und Klang für Live-Musik, Performances, Installationen, Ausstellungen, Dokumentationen, Clubbing und Corporate Events.
2003 erhielt die Stubnitz den Status als Industriedenkmal, ist aber natürlich nach wie vor fahrbereit und außerdem für Fremdveranstalter, Firmen- und Privatevents buchbar.
Neben dem Außenbereich an Deck gibt es drei separate Veranstaltungsräume (ehemalige Laderäume) mit insgesamt 4 Bars, die bis zu 700 Personen versorgen können. Mit einer über 50-jährigen facetten- und ereignisreichen Geschichte, wirkt das 80m lange Stahlschiff als atmosphärischer, post-industrieller Kulturorganismus auf alle Sinne.
Durch den langjährigen, offen-internationalen Kulturaustausch besteht ein großes Betätigungsfeld und Netzwerk für interkulturelle Organisatoren, Veranstaltungstechniker*innen, Booker*innen, Kunstschaffende und Anpackende, die – wie auch die auftretenden Künstler – an Bord untergebracht werden können. Selbiges gilt für die Instandhaltung in vielen Bereichen des Schiffs- und Maschinenbaus, der Elektrotechnik, des Handwerks und der Seefahrt.
Im beständig wachsenden bordeigenen Audio- und Video-Archiv lagern tausende Konzerte, von welchen eine kleine Auswahl auf der Homepage zu sehen ist. Pro Jahr werden bis zu 200 Live-Projekte präsentiert und dokumentiert. 2017 und 2018 erhielt die Stubnitz abermals den APPLAUS Preis der Initiative Musik für kulturell herausragendes Programm.
Mit Hilfe von Fördermitteln vom BKM und der FHH, befindet sich das Projekt seit Ende 2018 – parallel zum Kulturbetrieb – in umfassenden Instandsetzungs- und Wartungsmaßnahmen, um die Lebenserwartung der Stubnitz weitere 10 Jahre nach vorne zu bringen und Perspektiven zu schaffen.

After 25 years of East German deep-sea fishing as a cooling and transport ship, the Stubnitz was converted into a mobile art and culture ship after the reunification. Since then, 22 northern European port cities have been visited. For 28 years the Stubnitz has been a platform for research, presentation and documentation of innovative music and culture. Its steel architecture offers a unique space and sound for live music, performances, installations, exhibitions, documentations, clubbing and corporate events.
In 2003 the Stubnitz was awarded the status of an industrial monument, but of course it is still drivable and can also be booked for external organizers, corporate and private events.
In addition to the outdoor area on deck, there are three separate event rooms (former cargo holds) with a total of 4 bars that can serve up to 700 people. With over 50 years of multifaceted and eventful history, the 80m long steel ship acts as an atmospheric, post-industrial cultural organism that stimulates all senses.
Due to the many years of open-international cultural exchange, there is a large field of activities and a network for intercultural organizers, event technicians, bookers, artists and other people who are willing to work on board. The same applies to maintenance in many areas of shipbuilding and mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, craftsmanship and seafaring.
The constantly growing on-board audio and video archive contains thousands of concerts, a small selection can be seen on the homepage. Every year up to 200 live projects are presented and documented. In 2017 and 2018 the Stubnitz was once again awarded the APPLAUS Prize of the Initiative Musik for culturally outstanding program.
With the help of funding from the BKM and the FHH, the project has been undergoing extensive repair and maintenance measures since the end of 2018 - parallel to the cultural activities - in order to bring the life expectancy of the Stubnitz another 10 years forward and to create perspectives.

An innovator of Tanzania’s singeli music, Jay Mitta’s unique take on the scene’s sped-up Casio rhythms have a more polished and cheerful (though just as energetic) vibe that make him a standout in a genre that often exceeds 200 bpm.
Zoë Mc Pherson’s practice absorbs elements of performance, sound design, installation art, and DJing. A seasoned collaborator, the Berlin-based French-Irish artist has been lauded for their cybernetic dancefloor experiments that flicker between the rave and the art space.
Perfecting his craft over the last 30 years, DJ Diaki is a master at building the quintessential African rave sound, drawing comparisons to shangaan, singeli, and acholitronix as well as drum and bass and footwork. His electrifying sets have earned him the nickname “Le President” for his ability to channel ancestral rhythms and pull any club into a frenzy, from Berlin to small villages on the outskirts of Bamako.

The group's paths crossed on the grounds of shared interest in examining the interplay of traditional values and their futuristic mindsets.

Binghi and Astan’s set is an uninterrupted rhythmic and vocal dialogue between an MC using a voice transformer and a DJ digging, searching and exploring, allowing them to playfully improvise between personal productions and fiery tracks.
