Project Skycradle and Wirklichmacher e.V. are looking for singers for a staged production of a new opera with chorus and orchestra the weekend of February 17th, 2023. Our production of THE VILLAGE, written by Joel Mandelbaum (music) and Susan Fox (libretto), is based on a true story of a young Jewish boy who is hidden from the N***s by a small village in the Normandy, and all of the emotional struggle the village endures while trying to integrate him into their lives.
The performances, in English, will be at Katharinenkirche in Hamburg, on Friday the 17thof February and Saturday the 18th of February, with a dress rehearsal on the 16th. Rehearsals begin on the 27th of January and run throughout the day on the weekends and beginning at 17:00 on weekdays. This is a general schedule and will not require you to be there every day for the entirety of every rehearsal.
Payment is €1500. Singers local to Hamburg or the surrounding area are desired, as we cannot pay travel or housing costs.
Dr. Mandelbaum writes incredibly well for the voice (I have worked with him extensively in New York) and when voice parts are indicated, they are not beholden to Fach; they are in fact in general categories, and if you’re interested, I will send you the score and you can see for yourself which role would be better.

We are working together with people from the USA, where the composer and librettist live, and the two boys whose life and experiences inspired the story we want to tell, and from France, where the story is set.
