📢🚨 AUDITIONS 🚨📢 We will be performing 'A Christmas Carol' by Patrick Barlow (he of 'The 39 Steps' fame) as our November play! We have the following audition dates to choose from:

Sunday, 18 August from 2 to 4pm
Monday, 19 August, from 6 to 9pm
Sunday, 25 August, from 2 to 4pm

Please come along to one of these dates if you wish to audition. You don't need to prepare anything.

All auditions are held at our clubhouse (Oberaltenallee 20A).

Patrick Barlow’s adaptation of 'A Christmas Carol' uses only a small number of actors who take on multiple roles to bring to life Charles Dickens' beloved characters. We will perform this heart-warming and humourous spin on the classic story from 6 to 9 and 13 to 16 November 2024.

Honey: “Don't you love dancing?”
Martha: "With the right man, yeah.”
Honey: “I dance like the wind.” 💃

Not only that, sometimes Honey has that one drink too many… but that’s nothing compared to what Martha and George have in store for her and her husband Nick. Also, there may or may not be a secret (or two) involved, which we won’t spoil here 🤫

🗓 There are three more chances to see our production of Edward Albee’s 'Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?': Tonight, Friday and Saturday, 7:30pm at Theater an der Marschnerstrasse

George: “Actually, I'm rather worried about you. About your mind.”
Martha: “Don't you worry about my mind, sweetheart!”

Nick: “You've all gone crazy.”
Martha: “Yes. Sad but true.”
All four characters in Edward Albee’s 'Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?' are battling their demons, sometimes with more vigor than grace, but- considering the amount of alcohol consumed— with a surprisingly sharp sense of wit.

🗓 More chances to see this stage classic at Theater an der Marschnerstrasse from 7—8 June and 12—15 June.

“You bring things to the saddest point… the point where there’s something to lose.”
George seems to have developed various coping mechanisms over the years to deal with his and Martha's dysfunctional, toxic relationship. A rubber band can only be pulled so far, however, until it snaps. Reality and illusion collide in this rollercoaster of emotions!

“Because Daddy said we should be nice to them, that’s why.” Sounds like a harmless enough reason to invite young couple Nick and Honey over to your place at two o’clock in the morning right after a university faculty party has ended. But Martha may have a different definition for “being nice” than her father—or her husband George for that matter— because what follows is an evening of psychological games, hurtful banter, and the revelation of long-buried truths…

Edward Albee’s classic American drama 'Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?' runs from 5–8 and 12–15 June at Theater an der Marschnerstraße.

“Never mix, never worry.” Well, to be fair, Honey’s mantra for avoiding bad hangovers does sound sensible enough. What she hasn’t factored in, though, are Martha and George’s shrewd and hostile games; games they play with each other but also their
unwitting guests. Turns out, Honey should have worried from the moment she crossed her hosts’ threshold.

“Relax; sink into it; you’re no better than anybody else.” Suppose we can all agree to that—but what Martha actually means by that remains to be seen. Spiteful comments, witty banter and hurtful revelations are apparently woven into the fabric of Martha and George’s relationship. What happens, though, when two unsuspecting late-night guests bear witness to the secrets of an unhappy marriage?

The results are in and we are over the moon! The Hamburg Players have been awarded the John Kearey Trophy for Best Production at FEATS 2024 for our production of 'Love/Sick'🥇🏆

A huge well done to the cast and crew (for some of them, it was their very first time at FEATS)! We were also nominated for Best Stage Management.

And a big thank you to our hosts BATS Antwerp for making this year's festival so special! 🎭

🗓 Mark your calendars, as the baton has now been handed to us. FEATS 2025 will be hosted right here in Hamburg from 6-9 June!

“The word ‘drama’ comes from the Greek word ‘dran’. Which means ‘to do’, and which connects to the English word ‘drain’, meaning to exhaust someone totally…” at least according to Mrs Sorken, a character thought up by the late Christopher Durang.

We had a great time performing at the Fringe part of FEATS Antwerp today and are looking forward to seeing three more one-acts tonight - and maybe we’re agreeing with Mrs Sorken inasmuch as four days of festival fun are as much joy as they are exhaustion.

It’s almost time - tonight, shortly after 7.30pm it’s curtain up for the Hamburg Players at this year‘s FEATS competition. Eight actors, two directors, a sound person, a lighting person, two stagehands and a stage manager are very excited to bring our reimagining of “Love/Sick” to the festival in Antwerp.

Nick is a young biology professor at a small East Coast college with big aspirations and a good sense of self-confidence. Surely when Martha, who has invited him and his wife over for a nightcap, starts to openly flirt with him- in front of her husband- that can’t be a bad thing, can it? Well, better have another drink first, and then think about why all of this is happening.

Edward Albee’s 'Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?' runs from June 5–8 and June 12–15 at Theater an der Marschnerstraße.

Synopsis: It’s 2:30am, Sunday morning in the early autumn of the 1960s. Nick, an opportunistic university professor, and his wife are invited to an after party at the home of the university president’s daughter Martha and her husband George, himself a senior professor. What is supposed to be a pleasant nightcap quickly turns into something unexpected.

Over this long night, the unwitting guests are drawn into a tour de force of humiliation, frustration and manipulation that will leave everyone’s cards face-up on the table.

Edward Albee’s celebrated dark comedy about a dysfunctional relationship is hailed as a classic of modern American drama. The 1966 movie adaptation is one of only two films to be nominated in all eligible Academy Awards categories.
