Unter dem Titel One’s Company, Two’s A Crowd, Six Is A Party. laden Annika Kahrs und Nguyen Phuong-Dan sechs internationale künstlerische Positionen aus den Bereichen Tanz, Literatur, Bildende Kunst und Musik zu einer jeweils 10-tätigen Residency ein. Den KünstlerInnen wird während des Aufenthalts ermöglicht, frei und ohne bestimmte Vorgaben, ihrer Arbeit nachzugehen. Sobald öffentliche Veranstaltungen wieder möglich sind, wird es ein Programm mit allen Beteiligten geben. Die Termine werden auf dieser Website sowie über den Newsletter des Fleetstreet Theaters bekannt gegeben.
Eingeladen sind die MusikerInnen Jessica Ekomane und Frieder Butzmann, die Künstlergruppe Shroom!, bestehend aus Gesa Troch, Saskia Senge und Marvin Moïses Almaraz Dosal, die Bildende Künstlerin Annika Kahrs, die Autorin Merle Kröger sowie die Choreografin und Tänzerin Lina Gómez.
Frieder Butzmann wurde 1954 am Bodensee an der Grenze zur Schweiz geboren. Er trat seit 1976 an Orten wie dem SO 36 in Berlin Kreuzberg oder dem Museum of Modern Art in New York auf oder wie in den letzten Jahren in Paris, Rom, Rotterdam, Kopenhagen, Tel Avi, Niigata. Er machte Dinge wie Musik für eine Barocke Party, eine Klingonische Oper, viele Hörspiele oder Internetprojekte wie das Spunkkrachlexikon. Seit 1979 Diverse Tonträger. Live-Auftritte weltweit solo oder mit Alex Hacke, Thomas Kiesel, Jean Martin, Thomas Kapielski u.a.. Diverse Bühnenmusiken für Lindy Annis. Nebenher lehrte er auch: Musik in Multi Media oder Gestaltung des Tons in Film und Neue Medien in Berlin, Düsseldorf, Leipzig. Im Herbst 2020 kommt sein drittes Buch in die Welt: Wunderschöne Rückkopplungen (mit ganz vielen Bildern)!
Jessica Ekomane ist eine in Frankreich geborene und in Berlin lebende Musikerin und Klangkünstlerin. Sie schafft Situationen, in denen der Klang als transformatives Element für den Raum und das Publikum wirkt. Ihre quadrophonischen Performances, die durch ihre physische Wirkung gekennzeichnet sind, suchen durch das Zusammenspiel der Psychoakustik, der rhythmischen Strukturen sowie dem Austausch von Noise und Melodie, eine kathartische Wirkung zu erzielen.
Jessica Ekomane ist eine der sechs KomponistInnen, die Natascha Süder Happelman für ihre Installation im deutschen Pavillon der Biennale von Venedig 2019 ausgewählt hat. 2019 veröffentlichte sie ihr Debütalbum Multivocal bei Important Records. Ihre Performances und Installationen wurden in verschiedenen Institutionen weltweit präsentiert, u.a. beim CTM Festival (Berlin), Ars Electronica (Linz), Dommune (Tokio) und Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts (Omaha).
Lina Gómez wurde in Kolumbien geboren. Sie ist Choreographin, Tänzerin und Lehrerin. Lina studierte Tanz und Theater an der Katholischen Universität PUC-SP in São Paulo, Brasilien. Ihren Master in Choreografie erhielt sie am Hochschulübergreifenden Zentrum Tanz in Berlin, wo sie heute lebt und arbeitet. Für die Umsetzung des Gruppenstücks A Passo di Mulo erhielt sie 2018 die Einzelprojektförderung und 2019 Wiederaufnahmeförderung der Berliner Senatsverwaltung für Kultur und Europa. Ihre Arbeit Restraint wurde an verschiedenen Orten in ganz Europa präsentiert und ist Teil der europäischen Tanzplattform Aerowaves Twenty19. 2008 war sie Mitgründerin der Kompanie Aberta de Dança in São Paulo und wirkte dort als Choreografin und Performerin. Sie lehrte an Universitäten in Deutschland und der Türkei, sowie an verschiedenen Tanzausbildungsinstituten in Portugal, Polen, Brasilien, Kolumbien und Indien. Als Tänzerin und Performerin arbeitet Lina u.a. mit Tino Sehgal, Yoshiko Chuma, Edson Fernandes und Jorge Garcia.
Annika Kahrs lebt und arbeitet in Hamburg und Berlin. Sie erhielt zahlreiche Preise und Stipendien, darunter Villa Aurora - Los Angeles, Vila Sul in Brasilien, das Max-Pechstein-Stipendium, Stiftung Kunstfonds und den von René Block gestifteten George-Maciunas-Förderpreis. Kahrs hat sowohl national als auch international ausgestellt, darunter im Hamburger Bahnhof - Museum für Gegenwart, Berlin; auf der 5. Thessaloniki Biennale für zeitgenössische Kunst, Griechenland; in der Kunsthalle Bremerhaven, im Savvy Contemporary, Berlin; im Ausstellungsprojekt On the Road in Santiago de Compostela, Spanien; beim Performance-Festival Hybrid Art in Moskau, Russland; auf der Bienal Internacional de Curitiba, Brasilien; in der Hamburger Kunsthalle; im KW Institut für zeitgenössische Kunst, Berlin; in der Kunst- und Ausstellungshalle der Bundesrepublik Deutschland, Bonn; im Gropius Bau, Berlin; im Flat Time House, London und auf dem Velada de Santa Lucia Festival in Maracaibo, Venezuela.
Merle Kröger ist Schriftstellerin, Drehbuchautorin und Dramaturgin. Von 1992 bis 1999 war sie Mitglied der Berliner Gruppe dogfilm und gründete 2001 pong film gemeinsam Philip Scheffner. Sie ist Autorin von mehreren Kino-Dokumentarfilmen: Der Tag des Spatzen (2010), Revision (2012) und Havarie (2016). Kröger hat vier Romane im Hamburger argument Verlag veröffentlicht, u.a. Grenzfall (2012) und Havarie (2015), beide ausgezeichnet mit dem Deutschen Krimipreis. Der Spielfilm Europe und der Roman Die Experten sind in Fertigstellung.
Marvin Moïses Almaraz Dosal kombiniert in seiner künstlerischen Arbeit verschiedene Materialien mit Performance um mögliche Formen der Kollaboration und nachhaltige Landschaftssysteme zu erforschen. Almaraz Dosal wurde 1991 in Texcoco, Mexiko, geboren und lebt derzeit in Hamburg, wo er 2020 seinen MA bei den Prof. Jutta Koether und Prof. Thomas Demand abgeschlossen hat.
Nguyen Phuong-Dan studierte Kulturanthropologie an der Universität Hamburg sowie Visuelle Kommunikation mit Schwerpunkt Dokumentarfotografie an der HfbK Hamburg. Er arbeitet projektbezogen in unterschiedlichen Bereichen. Unter anderem entstand in Zusammenarbeit mit Stefan Canham das Fotobuch Die Deutschen Vietnamesen und gemeinsam mit Philip Widmann der szenische Dokumentarfilm Ein Haus in Ninh Hoa. In Kooperation mit dem Kunstverein Harburger Bahnhof in Hamburg initiierte er das Projekt One Hundred People Say Umbrella (2015), das sich mit auditiven Publikationen im Kontext der bildenden Kunst beschäftigte. Kuratorisch war er zudem unter anderem an den Veranstaltungen Immersion (Gropius Bau, Berlin), Music From High Wires (Kampnagel, Hamburg), Intonal Festival (Inkonst, Malmö) und Possible Musics (Palais de la Porte Dorée, Paris involviert) beteiligt. Unter dem Namen Phuong-Dan ist er international als DJ tätig und veranstaltet seit 2003 eine eigene Clubreihe im Golden Pudel Club in Hamburg.
Saskia Senge befasst sich überwiegend mit Installations- und Objektkunst. Zentrales Moment in ihren Arbeiten ist das Verknüpfen von Bildern und Objekten aus Alltagsbeobachtungen. Dabei interessieren sie besonders die Dehnbarkeit der Grenzen und Spektren des Nutzbaren sowie der performative Charakter der einzelnen Objekte. Saskia Senge lebt und arbeitet in Hamburg. Sie studierte bis 2017 Bildhauerei an der HfbK Hamburg bei Prof. Thomas Demand und Prof. Dr. Hanne Loreck sowie an der China Art Academy Hangzhou und der ZHdK Zürich bei Eran Schaerf und Pauline Boudry. Senge war von 2013 bis 2017 Stipendiatin der Studienstiftung, erhielt 2014 den K.H. Ditze Preis, 2015 das Art School Alliance Stipendium und 2019 das Hamburger Arbeitsstipendium.
Gesa Troch lebt und arbeitet in Hamburg. Sie studierte bei Prof. Jutta Koether, Prof. Dr. Hanne Loreck und Prof. Sam Durant an der HfbK Hamburg. Sie untersucht Transformationsprozesse, Verflechtungen, Intersektionalität, und kollaborative Strukturen. In ihren malerischen, skulpturalen Objekten beschäftigt sie sich mit dem Feld des Materiellen und Immateriellen. Körperliche, sinnliche Wahrnehmungen und Erfahrungen wie Weichheit, Glanz oder Klebrigkeit werden akzentuiert und das Abjekte und Ephemere reflektiert.

Under the title One’s Company, Two’s A Crowd, Six Is A Party., Annika Kahrs and Nguyen Phuong-Dan invite six international artists representing the fields of dance, literature, visual arts and music to a 10-day residency. During their stay, the artists are able to work on their respective projects freely and without any specific requirements or results. As soon as the public health situation allows, a public program with all participants will be organised. The dates will be announced on this website and via the Fleetstreet Theater newsletter.
The participants are musicians Jessica Ekomane and Frieder Butzmann, artist group Shroom ! (Gesa Troch, Saskia Senge and Marvin Moïses Almaraz Dosal) visual artist Annika Kahrs, author Merle Kröger and choreographer and dancer Lina Gómez.
Frieder Butzmann was born in 1954 near the Swiss border at the Lake Constance. He has lived in Berlin since 1975 and was the first Post-Punk. Since 1976 he has performed in various venues such as SO 36 in Berlin Kreuzberg and Museum of Modern Art in New York. His works include things like Musik für eine Barocke Party, a Klingon Opera, more than 30 radio plays, Sound art pieces and internet projects such as Spunkkrachlexikon. His third book will be published in autumn 2020: Wunderschöne Rückkopplungen (with lots of pictures)!
Jessica Ekomane is a French-born and Berlin-based electronic musician and sound artist. Her quadraphonic performances, characterized by their physical affect, seek a cathartic effect through the interplay of psychoacoustics, the perception of rhythmic structures and the interchange of noise and melody. Jessica Ekomane was one of the six composers chosen as collaborators by Natascha Süder Happelman for her installation at the German pavilion of the Venice Biennale 2019. She released her debut album, Multivocal, on Important Records in 2019. Her work has been presented in various institutions worldwide such as CTM festival (Berlin), Ars Electronica (Linz), Dommune (Tokyo) or Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts (Omaha).
Lina Gómez is a Colombian choreographer, dancer and teacher based in Berlin. Her recent choreographic work A Passo di Mulo was supported by the Berlin Senate Einzelprojektförderung and Wiederaufnahmeförderung. Her work Restraint was first presented at ada Studio and had its premiere at Sophiensaele in the Tanztage Berlin 2018. Presented in various venues across Europe, Restraint is also part of the European dance platform Aerowaves Twenty19. Furthermore, she is the co-founder of the Cia. Aberta de Dança of São Paulo (2008) and has been developing works collectively there ever since as a choreographer and performer. Beneath that, Lina has also worked as a dancer with Yoshiko Chuma, Tino Sehgal, Edson Fernandes and Jorge Garcia, among others. Lina received an MA in Choreography at the Inter-University Centre for Dance Berlin (HZT) and a BA in “Communication of the Arts of the Body” with an emphasis on Dance and Theatre from the Catholic University of São Paulo.
Annika Kahrs lives and works in Hamburg and Berlin. She has been awarded a number of prizes and scholarships including Villa Aurora, L.A., VILA SUL, Brazil, Stiftung Kunstfonds or the George-Maciunas-Förderpreis, donated by René Block. Kahrs has exhibited both nationally and internationally, including Hamburger Bahnhof – Museum für Gegenwart, Berlin, Germany; 5th Thessaloniki Biennale of Contemporary Art, Greece; Kunsthalle Bremerhaven, Germany; Savvy Contemporary, Germany; On the Road exhibition project in Santiago de Compostela, Spain; the Bienal Internacional de Curitiba, Brazil; Hamburger Kunsthalle, Germany; Hybrid Art Festival in Moskau, Russia; KW Institute for Contemporary Art in Berlin, Germany; Kunst- und Ausstellungshalle der Bundesrepublik Deutschland, Germany; Gropius Bau Berlin; Flat Time House London, England and the Velada de Santa Lucia festival in Maracaibo, Venezuela.
Merle Kröger is a writer, screenwriter and dramaturge. From 1992-1999 she was a member of the Berlin group dogfilm. In 2001 she founded pong film in collaboration with Philip Scheffner. She is the author of the cinema documentaries: Der Tag des Spatzen (2010), Revision (2012) and Havarie (2016). Kröger has published four novels at argument Verlag in Hamburg, including Grenzfall (2012) and Havarie (2015), both awarded the German Crime Prize. The feature film Europe and the novel Die Experten are currently in completion.
Marvin Moïses Almaraz Dosal uses material and performance to research possible forms of collaboration and sustainable landscape systems. He lives and works in Hamburg where he completed his MA with Prof. Jutta Koether and Prof. Thomas Demand in 2020.
Nguyen Phuong-Dan graduated in Cultural Anthropology from the University of Hamburg and Visual Communication with a focus on documentary photography from the University of Fine Arts Hamburg. He works on a project-specifc basis in various fields. Among these, he realized the photobook Die Deutschen Vietnamesen in cooperation with Stefan Canham and the scenic documentary A House in Ninh Hoa together with Philip Widmann. In collaboration with the Kunstverein Harburger Bahnhof, Hamburg, he initiated the project One Hundred People Say Umbrella which dealt with auditive publications within a visual arts context. He was also curatorially involved in events such as Immersion (Gropius Bau, Berlin), Music From High Wires (Kampnagel, Hamburg), Intonal Festival (Inkonst, Malmö) and Possible Musics (Palais de la Porte Dorée, Paris).
Under the name of Phuong-Dan he works internationally as a DJ and has established his own clubnight at the Golden Pudel Club, Hamburg, since 2003.
Saskia Senge’s practice focuses mainly on installation and sculpture. A central aspect of her artistic work is the combination of images and objects based on observations of everyday life. She is particularly interested in the flexible boundaries and spectra of their usability. Furthermore she is interested in the performative character of individual objects. Saskia Senge lives and works in Hamburg. Until 2017 she studied sculpture at the HfbK Hamburg with Prof. Thomas Demand and Prof. Dr. Hanne Loreck, as well as the China Art Academy Hangzhou and the ZHdK Zurich with Eran Schaerf and Pauline Boudry. Senge was a scholarship holder of the Studienstiftung from 2013 to 2017 and received the K.H. Ditze Preis, the Art School Alliance Scholarship in 2015 and the Hamburg work sholarship in 2019.
Gesa Troch lives and works in Hamburg. She studied with Prof. Jutta Koether, Prof. Dr. Hanne Loreck and Prof. Sam Durant at the University of Fine Arts in Hamburg. Her work examines and performs transformational processes, as well as fields of intersection, entanglement and collaboration. Her painterly, sculptural objects show her interest in both the material and non-material world. By emphasising physical and sensual perceptions as well as experiences such as softness, stickiness or glossiness she reflects on the abject and the ephemeral.
