Umgido

Hailing from East London in the Eastern Cape, Umgido are leaders in a new age Gqom sound.

This unique sound blends Gqom melodies with classic notes of electro house and has fast piqued interest far beyond the borders of South Africa.

This one is incredibly special to us. 🖤

Seeing “Nightshifters” appear on Black Coffee Track IDs means the record was identified from one of his plays somewhere out there and knowing that he played a record we released independently through Umgido Records is a huge moment for us.

Sometimes we look so far away for validation that we forget we might already have everything we need to build something meaningful ourselves. This release keeps reminding us to trust our sound, our label and our journey.

Enkosi kakhulu Bhuti This means a lot. 🙏🏿
This is huge for Lil label from Eastern Cape (Mdantsane / Scenery Park) at a time when there have been very crazy news recently about both Kasi’s.

And if anybody out there caught the moment Nightshifters was played, please send us the video! 👀🖤

CAPE TOWN, WE’RE COMING HOME. 🖤

Proud to announce that UMGIDO will be playing DESCENDANTS CAPE TOWN at the Castle of Good Hope.

Having a dedicated Bridges For Music stage makes this even more special. As part of BFM’s first graduating class, it feels like a true full-circle moment.

We’ll be opening our set with “Summer,” released on Descendants Records in 2023. ☀️

14 November - see you on the dance floor! 🇿🇦

FULL-CIRCLE MOMENT! 🌍🔥

Shimza played our music on Karma Karma Radio today!

His support goes all the way back to the “Barr-Setta” days. Every time a new mix drops, we listen closely, and somehow, the support is always there. That kind of consistency never goes unnoticed.

Big love and appreciation to SHIMZA for continuing to champion our music, our sound and the movement. It truly means everything to us. 🖤🙏🏾

“From kasi to kasi” takes on a whole new meaning when gems from the kasi continue to recognise, support and uplift other gems from the ekasi.

The countdown is officially on! Hit the link in our bio to visit the countdown page, pre-order the release and pre-save it on Spotify.
