Zuvor musste die täglich viele Kilometer wandern, um Wasser zu holen, während es sich nur 200 Meter unter ihren Füßen befand. Dieser Dokumentarfilm begleitet bei diesem Wandel.

Es leben heute nur noch zwei Tiere und keines der beiden Weibchen ist in der Lage, ein Kalb zu gebären. Kann die Wissenschaft eine Lösung finden, um die Art zu retten? Ein internationales Team von Wissenschaftlern leitet ein Projekt namens "Biorescue", mit dem versucht werden soll, das nördliche Breitmaulnashorn durch künstliche Befruchtung zu retten.
