Shibui Collective

SHIBUI collective is a performance group, based in south Germany, Freiburg im Breisgau. That is what led you to found the SHIBUI collective.

For the choreographer Emi Miyoshi, collaboration with installation and audio-visual artists has opened up new possibilities and forms of fusion of dance and art. The collective has made it its leitmotif to expand the possibilities of expression and imagination through cross-genre collaboration over a period of three years - always starting with dance as the starting point, as the "guiding form" of

expression. For each project, dancers and guest artists from different genres are invited and a collaboration with dance is sought in order to perform a joint work. Shibui is a Japanese word that refers to the aesthetics of simple, humble and rare beauty. It contains the maturity and complexity, the patina that only time can bring, like a fine quality wine. "Shibui" objects have a story that they tell. The SHIBUI collective has set itself the goal of finding forms of expression that are tasteful and entertaining, but still have a bitterness or unexpected astringency in them.

Final stop of the tour — where it all began.

Initiated through „48 Dance“ .ulm / ROXY Ulm (Artistic Director: Dana Ruttenberg, 2024), this work grew out of the encounters and impulses developed there.

Inspiriert von Bob Dylans Moment des Zögerns während der Aufnahme von „We are the World“, öffnet LET’S HEAR IT FOR THE BOY von Emi Miyoshi & SHIBUI Kollektiv einen Raum für männliche Verletzlichkeit. In einer Zeit, in der die Geschlechtergrenzen durchlässiger werden, während zugleich alte Rollenbilder wieder an Einfluss gewinnen, nähert sich die Freiburger Choreografin – als einzige Frau im künstlerischen Team – dem Thema bewusst von außen an. Mit neugierigem Blick und empathischer Haltung interpretiert sie nicht, sondern durchdringt – roh, direkt, unverstellt.
