Born in Leonberg in 1972, Michael Pfrommer lives and works in Frankfurt am Main.

From 1997 to 2003, he studied at the Städelschule in Frankfurt, followed by a year at Musashino Art University in Tokyo. Study and travel grants took him to Japan, the United States and Tierra del Fuego — experiences that continue to resonate in his work.

Pfrommer’s paintings often begin with something familiar: a piece of clothing, an everyday object, a landscape, a window.

What follows is a subtle shift. Familiar things are displaced, transformed and brought into new relationships.

The result is a body of work that feels both precise and open — quiet, yet remarkably present.

01 — New Forms of Life
New forms of life, and the life of forms, have been a continuous focus throughout Sebastian Stöhrer’s practice.
His latest works begin with fruits and vegetables—not as subjects to be depicted, but as points of departure for a process of mental and material transformation. With his eyes covered and only the scent of the chosen fruit or vegetable as a sensory reference, Stöhrer allows his hands to shape the clay through an interplay of imagination, perception, and movement.
The resulting forms emerge somewhere between intention and unconscious gesture: neither representations nor abstractions, but traces of an internal image translated into matter.
