New addition in our online-archive PYLON-Hub.com:

The Monophonic Response
by American Artist

The two-channel film and sculptural installation documents a meticulously crafted yet poetically altered re-creation of a pivotal 1936 static rocket engine test that initiated the United States’ venture into space travel. Inspired by Octavia E. Butler’s 1993 novel Parable of the Sower, which unfolds in the imagined dystopic year of 2024, American Artist performed and filmed The Monophobic Response in the Mojave Desert in the summer of 2024. Artist’s interpretation involved an actual rocket engine test fire in a desolate Californian landscape, creating eerie juxtapositions between Butler’s prescient visions and our troubling realities. Drawing on Butler’s fictive religious community Earthseed, this installation weaves together thought-provoking takes on the meaning of “destiny” and who gets to enact it.

The installation here shown at will be part of Artist’s solo exhibition at opening on January 24, 2025.

Wi-Fire by Rune Bering
at &gate ._gate

Wi-Fire is an installation made of routers and screens arranged in a way that
resembles a bonfire. The screens are flickering with videos of flames that have been
compressed to the point where they are hardly recognizable: purple-pink digital
shadows of flames. They are the result of having been uploaded to various social
media platforms—which each have their own compression algorithms—over and
over. The original crackling sound has turned into a dull reverberation that resonates
with the intense hum of ca. 200 servers. The servers are collectively sending out
their Wi-Fi signals and can be found in nearby phones. They have been named after
power words identified by marketing experts.

The group exhibition is part of the 2024 edition of Civa media art festival explores the intersection of contemporary technologies, realities, and experiences in digital, physical, and hybrid spaces.

Understanding intelligence not only as a solely human trait or technology but also extending it to knowing entities and organisms allows for the exploration of a field within which power constructions and technologies can be decoded and disrupted. How can organisms glitch militarized spheres and thereby breach violent technologies? What survival strategies, tactics, and codes do we need to effectively resist the imposition of binary coding and appropriations? What kinds of symbiotic relationships can we envision and program?

With the exhibition Milk Plus, Jens Settergren examines in a magnificent and sensory-saturated video installation the collective images linked to the human body and its reproduction, optimization and commercialization in our time:

In his largescale film installation Milk Plus at Viborg Kunsthal, Settergren indulges in the many guises of milk and its role in visual culture. Across his sleek minimalist and refined simulations Settergren traces how the aesthetic approach of globally shared strategies for marketing milk have altered its symbolism and contributed to the transformation of a technologically mediated world.

‘IT’S IN THE GAME‘ by Sondra Perry

The screening is part of ERRATIC CURRENTS, presented by PYLON in collaboration with on view during HYBRID Biennale (October 12 - 27, 2024) - festival for Digital Arts and Transformation.

In the video Sondra Perry looks into how gaming can capitalise on the simulation of bodies and objects. ‘IT’S IN THE GAME’ focuses on her brother Sandy, who was a Division 1 basketball player for Georgia State University. His physical likeness and statistics were sold by the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) to video game developer EA Sports for use in the 2009 and 2010 NCAA video games without his knowledge or consent. Perry draws a parallel to how large museums have built their collection on looted objects from former colonies. Through this, she urges viewers to reflect consider more recent forms of colonialization – a kind of digital variant – where the exploited are left watching a virtual copy of themselves, produced and profited on by large corporations.

PYLON is pleased to present ‚IT’S IN THE GAME‘ by Sondra Perry as the final part of its screening program ERRATIC CURRENTS. The series is in collaboration with as part of HYBRID Biennale (October 12 - 27, 2024) - festival for Digital Arts and Transformation, presenting works by Keiken, NONOTAK and more. ‚IT’S IN THE GAME‘ by Newark, New Jersey based artist Sondra Perry will be on view during the third festival weekend from October 24 - 26 at Kraftwerk Mitte in Dresden, Germany.

In the video Sondra Perry looks into how gaming can capitalise on the simulation of bodies and objects. She focuses on her brother Sandy, whose physical statistics were licensed, without his consent, to game developer EA Sports. This raises the question of ownership and agency in relation to digital bodies.
Utilizing computer-generated images, animation, and avatars, Perry’s videos, performances, and installations foreground digital tools as a way to critically reflect on new technologies of representation and to remobilize their potential.

The exhibition was on view from September 6 until October 12, 2024 and presented an immersive multi-media installation by and a selection of image-based works by Pamela Rosenkranz along a selection of other works by the artists.

dirt examines different modes of perception, challenging the gaze as the primary site of understanding and instead directing focus towards other aspects of reception, sensation, and perception. Both Pamela Rosenkranz and Jenna Sutela aim to dissolve the boundary between the organic and the synthetic. The artists bring together human and more-than-human perspectives, proposing that consciousness, intelligence and meaning are not exclusively human properties, but can also be found in other living beings, ecosystems and technologies, such as microorganisms, plants, composts and artificial neuralnetworks.

at Kraftwerk Mitte Dresden

The screening is part of ERRATIC CURRENTS - a project presented by PYLON in cooperation with as part of HYBRID Biennale - Festival for Digital Arts and Transformation (October 12 - 27, 2024).

“Blessed Avenue” by Jacolby Satterwhite explores the relationship between the body, technology and memory by merging dream worlds with digital spaces. The work uses 3D animations and personal fragments to re-contextualize familial memories in hyper-real landscapes. In doing so, Satterwhite poses fundamental identity questions about belonging, community and the possibility of redefining oneself within digital environments.

Thanks to everyone who joined us last weekend for the first part of HYBRID Biennale 2024 and who came to see the screening of „DED » by Martine Syms at Kraftwerk Mitte!

The screening has been presented by PYLON in cooperation with as part of HYBRID Biennale - Festival for Digital Arts and Transformation (October 12 - 27, 2024).

The animation “DED” by Los Angeles based artist Martine Syms explores the role of media and pop culture in the construction and preservation of identity. Syms questions how performativity and self-presentation are shaped by digital platforms and at the same time critically reflected upon. With humor and irony, she shows how the perception of authenticity is manipulated by the media.
