Oldie but goldie. 🐺❄️

I painted this Vindicator a few years back, but it remains one of my favorite projects. There is something satisfying about revisiting older kits; they often possess a character that holds up incredibly well over time.

I focused heavily on the weathering to reflect a long campaign on Fenris, treating the hull as a canvas rather than just a model. It’s a reminder that a well-executed piece doesn't expire—it just gains more history.

Do you prefer your armor factory-fresh or battle-worn? Let’s talk technique in the comments.

The Sanguinor in all his golden glory. This one has been a long time coming. Proud to add this centerpiece to the collection.

Stay tuned for more high-level projects on the desk. 🚀

Taking a look back at a piece from a few years ago! This Lord of Death is a key veteran of Operation Black Wings, a personal project focused on reimagining the traditional Blood Angels color palette. 🩸🌑

For this version, Mephiston features jet-black hair instead of the usual blond, paired with the signature black wing on his shoulder—the mark of the operation. The back of the cloak was a massive labor of love, featuring extensive freehand work to enhance his mystical and gothic presence.

It’s always great to revisit these archive pieces that shaped the studio’s journey. The blood of Sanguinius still runs deep, but under much darker wings... 🦇

"Even the brightest gold starts in the shadows..."

Today, I’m taking a trip down memory lane. I dug up this little Goblin, which was originally a fantastic free STL offered by the team at Blue Giant Studios (https://www.bluegiantstudios.co.uk/). This paint job dates back quite a while, and looking at it now is a humble reminder of where DT Studio Miniatures began.

At the time, I was so proud of this little guy. Looking back, I can see the shaky highlights and the 'creative' color choices. But that’s the beauty of this hobby: Progression.

The Evolution:

From Basic Coats to Advanced NMM: Back then, I was just learning to thin my paints; now, I’m pushing the limits of light on pieces like the Sanguinor.

From Free Prints to Master Sculpting: This Goblin started as a simple free STL, the base is totaly made by myself. I perform now, like my recent Execrator-to-Chaplain project.

The Constant: My love for characterful sculpts. Even years later, the personality in this Blue Giant Studios design still holds up. It’s proof that a great sculpt—even a free gift to the community—is a joy to paint at any skill level.

To all my fellow painters: don’t hide your old work. It’s the map of your progress. Every 'bad' miniature is a step toward your masterpiece.

What’s the one model in your cabinet that reminds you how far you’ve come? Let’s talk about the grind in the comments! 👇

Golden hour at the studio... but without a drop of metallic paint. ✨🩸

Work in Progress on the Sanguinor. I’ve decided to go full NMM (Non-Metallic Metal) on this legendary armor. It’s a game of patience, placing every highlight and reflection to mimic that celestial glow.

It’s still a bit rough in some areas, but the gold is starting to 'pop'! There’s no better model to push the limits of light and shadow than the Avatar of Sanguinius himself.

The process so far:
🎨 Deep Browns to bright Ice Yellow
🖌️ Dozens of thin glazes
☕ A lot of focus (and coffee)

Is it worth the extra hours? Let me know what you think of the shine so far! 👇

WIP Showdown: My Execrator Conversion vs. The GW Chaplain Tease! ⚔️🩸

I’m deep into converting this Execrator into a proper Son of Sanguinius. Then, Games Workshop drops the preview for the 11th Edition Armageddon box and its new Blood Angels Chaplain. The resemblance is wild!

Swipe to check the WIP progress on my desk. I’ve still got some work to do on the gun and chaine metal.

Who wore it better (so far)? The studio model or my humble desk WIP? 😉 Let me know what you think!
