Experimentation is the keyword that animates #Emergent, the section of #miart2021 curated for the fourth consecutive year by Attilia Fattori Franchini, who has transformed it over time into a research lab for innovative languages and experiences, and into a platform for the enhancement of emerging artists and galleries, in the early stages of their craft.
Among the many artistic languages explored, including sculpture, installation and video, a strong figurative painting presence stands out: innovative brushworks, never predictable, which surprise and address major current topics such gender-related issues, new feminism, race, and ecology.

Dialogue and collaboration are part of the DNA of miart in its twenty-fifth edition. In this section, this trend materialized in 24 galleries from 12 countries besides Italy, sharing stands, projects and creating unprecedented synergies.

We are very pleased to announce that Bradley Davies will receive the WERK.STOFF Prize for Painting from the Andreas Felger Kulturstiftung and the Heidelberger Kunstverein 2021!
The Award Ceremony and Finissage will happen tomorrow 13.06 at 2 pm. Please join us Heidelberger Kunstverein for a final viewing of the WERK.STOFF exhibition before we hand over the prize!
Remarks from the Jury on Davies' work:
"Bradley Davies' painting combines the absurd with the social, the playfully ironic with the concretely political, noodles and ironing boards with dictators and medieval art history. Above all, however, his painting combines the classical panel painting with its manifold extensions. Davies' paintings are eclectic and close themselves off to a stylistic umbrella term; they very consciously do not distinguish between this side and the other side of the panel painting, between space and wall, or between political content and self-sufficient 'L'art pour l'art.'"
The jury, which included Dr. Ulrike Groos, director of the Kunstmuseum Stuttgart, Dr. Martin Engler, art historian, Frankfurt am Main/Berlin, and Ursula Schöndeling, selected the artist from the roster of the WERK.STOFF nominated artists*: Mojé Assefjah, Bradley Davies, Veronika Hilger, Ada van Hoorebeke and Anna Slobodnik.
