An evening of Baroque music at the Basilica di Massenzio, in the heart of the Roman Forum.

Concerto Köln performed Music for the Crown, a programme of works by Handel and Vivaldi, including Handel's Water Music and Music for the Royal Fireworks. The concert took place in the unique open-air setting of the Basilica di Massenzio, surrounded by the history of ancient Rome.

We had an amazing time with Chorwerk Ruhr and Florian Helgath, performing Bach's Mass in B Minor in Brixen Brixen | Bressanone and Schwäbisch Gmünd Stadt Schwäbisch Gmünd. Together with our wonderful soloists: Johanna Winkel, O L I V I A V E R M E U L E N, Sebastian Kohlhepp and Christian Immler it was an unforgettable musical journey. What a joy to share these moments with audiences! ☺️

A musical journey across Baroque Europe: with works by Telemann, Bach, Sammartini, Handel and Vivaldi, Concerto Köln explores the extraordinary variety of styles, colours and traditions that shaped the music of the 18th century.

At the heart of the programme is Telemann’s “Klingende Geographie”, complemented by concertos and orchestral works from Italy, England and Germany. The evening also brings to light music by Mrs Philarmonica, the pseudonym of an anonymous female composer, and features a special arrangement of Vivaldi’s Concerto in A minor.

As soloists, violinist Evgeny Sviridov and recorder player Max Volbers join Concerto Köln for an evening of virtuosity, discovery and characteristic Baroque brilliance.

Wie ein Juwelier, der die kostbarsten Steine aus seinem Besitz noch einmal schleift, um sie zu einem noch wertvolleren Kunstwerk zusammenzufügen, hat Johann Sebastian Bach über ein Jahrzehnt an seiner h-Moll-Messe gefeilt.
Am Zenit seines Lebens und Wirkens angekommen, verneigte sich der Komponist vor der Kunst der Alten Meister der Vokalpolyphonie und ergänzte ihre Stilistik um eigene Sätze seines reichen Kantaten- und Konzertschatzes.
Am Ende hat Bach ein Werk geschaffen, das hinsichtlich seiner kompositorischen Dichte seinesgleichen sucht. Mit diesem „Juwel“ gehen CHORWERK RUHR und Concerto Köln gemeinsam mit einem hochkarätigen Solistenquartett im Juli auf Tour gen Süden.

Johann Sebastian Bach’s Mass in B minor BWV 232 is one of the great jewels of sacred music – a work the composer shaped and refined over more than a decade.
At the height of his creative powers, Bach looked back to the art of the old masters of vocal polyphony while drawing on the richness of his own cantatas and concertante writing. The result is a masterpiece of extraordinary density, spiritual depth and architectural grandeur.

This July, CHORWERK RUHR and Concerto Köln bring Bach’s monumental Mass in B minor on tour, joined by a distinguished quartet of soloists.

Mitten in den Proben – und voller Vorfreude auf unser Festivalwochenende: Am Freitag, 12. Juni 2026, sind wir beim Bach-Archiv · Bachfest Leipzig mit „Bach vs. Scheibe“ im Paulinum zu erleben. Das Programm kennt ihr vielleicht schon von unserem gleichnamigen Album mit Marie-Sophie Pollak und Max Volbers – erschienen bei Berlin Classics.

Und danach geht es direkt weiter: Am Samstag, 13. Juni 2026, spielen wir bei den Händelfestspielen Halle „Farinelli vs. Carestini“ – gemeinsam mit Countertenor Valer Sabadus, mit dem uns eine lange musikalische Partnerschaft verbindet.

Mit der Freude über unsere Nominierung für den OPUS KLASSIK als Ensemble/Orchester des Jahres im Rücken freuen wir uns sehr auf diese beiden Konzerte. Sie finden im Rahmen zweier renommierter und traditionsreicher Festivals für Alte Musik statt und sind bereits fast ausverkauft – wer dabei sein möchte, bekommt aber noch Restkarten.
