Today is your last chance to visit us at our booth at @ArtDuesseldorf 👉 G 10.

Ornella Fieres presents yesterday’s world through the eyes of algorithms. The series shown here is based on a flower postcard from the 1960s that she bought at an online flea market.

The motif was studied by a GAN (a generative adversarial network – a form of self-learning artificial intelligence), which then created its own picture based on what it had learned.

Today is your last chance to visit us at our booth at @ArtDuesseldorf 👉 G 10.

For Warren Neidich pictures by other artists form the basis of his WRONG RAINBOW PAINTINGS. The series refers back to historical landscape paintings in which the artists deliberately misrepresented the colors of the rainbow.

Although optical phenomena such as light and color are involved, they’re subordinate to the artistic vision, whose style differs from the scientific method.

Today is the last day of @ArtDuesseldorf. Visit us at our booth 👉 G 10.

Radenko Milak is one of the artists GALLERY PRISKA PASQUER presents. Milak uses the means of appropriation. He transfers images taken from the news to the medium of painting, creating experimental access to our visual memory. As a chronicler of the present, he records the many social, ecological, political, and economic upheavals and crises in extensive series.

For example, although the large-format images in his ANTHROPOCENE series initially seem like cheerfully abstract pictorial worlds in bright colors, in fact they document humans’ enormous ecological footprint.

GALLERY PRISKA PASQUER for the first time presents NFTs at @ArtDüsseldorf.

The Filipino artist Skye Nicolas evokes a digital déjà vu with his NFTs. His pixel paintings hark back to the tradition of abstract expressionism, revealing intimate conversations and hidden dialogues that are simultaneously re-encoded through complex interconnections. In these NFTs, the artist explores a theme central to his work that he describes as “induced nostalgia.”

🗓 9 April
⏰ 11.30 am CET

Banz & Bowinkel consider various questions raised by the constant advance of digitalization. What long-term effect will digital possibilities have on our habits, sensory impressions, courses of action, and our perception in the long run? What happens behind the invisible, virtual backdrop?

The latter question is illustrated by GIULIA BOWINKEL and FRIEDEMANN BANZ in their series PRIMITIVES, which can also be seen in augmented form.

The “primitives” are simple graphic objects that ultimately form complex 3D structures and thus make up the basic building blocks of the virtual world. Detached from their function, these images appear especially realistic due to their gleaming surfaces and fluorescent colors, and in formal terms are evocative of minimalism.

The series of carpets called BOTS, on the other hand, is based on the automated computer programs of the same name that collect our data online every day and control our behavior. Using an app, visitors can take these augmented beings for a walk around the booth in a very lifelike manner.

Pieter Hugo’s series SOLUS VOL. 1 is on view at Gallery Priska Pasquer at @ArtDuesseldorf.

Hugo has captured images of people across China, Jamaica, the US, Mexico, Ghana, Nigeria, Liberia, and many other countries, before he became a world-renowned photographer, he was just a teenage boy with a camera. Gifted to him by his father – an amateur photographer himself — the camera became a critical window for Hugo to interact with and understand the world around him in South Africa.

About SOLUS 1, he says: "I explore the shifting aesthetics of youth culture. It is a typological series that looks at atypical beauty as manifested in fashion models and aspirational models. For many years, the function of contemporary portraiture as a means of representing youth has become elusive in a culture largely driven by perfection and homogeneity. Increasingly, advertising, the media, fashion et al., have started using and celebrating people with atypical beauty. I am interested in whether this is truly a celebration or whether it is just a creation of a new target audience, or perhaps both."

Gallery Priska Pasquer is delighted to present among others Charlie Stein at @ArtDuesseldorf.

The painter Stein deals with strategies of self-representation and the formation of fixed attributions. She concentrates on the machinery of presentation encountered in social media such as Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat, and Tinder. She also focuses on the construction of images of female identity.

Stein questions the compatibility of the rising importance of robots and common notions of femininity in the digital age. Based on various selfies from her Instagram feed, she creates female robots that appear both exceptionally humanoid and unnatural. Will the increasing digitalization of everyday life plunge us into an identity crisis – or are we already in the midst of it?

Find unique work by Fabian Herkenhoener by clicking on the link https://iazzu.app.link/4a478mfhj4s0 or scanning the QR-Code. ENG: FABIAN HERKENHOENER paints text images. Sometimes his canvases contain entire poems, other times just individual words. The letters structure the space into compact blocks or small groups and do not always retain the last word in the picture. Some letters are also painted over again by the artist. Or, to be more specific, “sprayed over”, as Herkenhoener uses spray cans to create his work. This technique ties in with his fast, direct approach to work, which transfers the rapid style of the drawing pencil to large-scale formats in a defined space. 😍😍😍 Discover more of Gabriella Torrese-Ferrer art on @iazzu by clicking this link: https://iazzu.app.link/MyGallerySC Not only do clouds store valuable data, they also mediate data production, exchange, and commodification. The ongoing work series Isn't the World Just a Great Big Pyramid Scheme addresses the decentralized and unregulated value chains surrounding data in the digital space. Personal data, often extracted without the knowledge or consent of its owners, represents a powerful tool. For example, it is able to supply individualized information packages and mirror them back to targeted audiences in the form of advertising. Gabriella Torres-Ferrer’s series examines the semiotics that shapes the (near-ubiquitous) digital neighborhood. Spanning from targeted ads to immersive videos, to poetry, the interconnected works play with the aesthetics of targeted advertising and use graphics that challenge both the Internet's false empathy and the illusion of privacy. Their commercial détournement ironically celebrates the low style of global capital while addressing a time in which peoples’ behavioral data points may have become more valuable than their actual lives. Surrounded by the misty layers of the cloud, Gabriella Torres-Ferrer sensually makes tangible the ways in which surveillance companies such as Google and Facebook – under the pretext of ethics, accountability, and free choice architectures – repurpose bodies in order to profit from them.
