Galerie Boisserée was founded in Cologne, Germany in 1838, and nowadays shows art of the 20th and 21st century, notably art after 1950, as well as contemporary art. – selected artworks from the printmaking oeuvre, on paper and sculptures
From an early age, Venet was drawn to art. Following his first drawings, he began creating performances while still a very young man and developed a deep interest in unconventional raw materials such as tar, coal, and gravel. When he moved to New York City in the 1960s, he became increasingly engaged with mathematics and astrophysics. The theoretical reflections and formulae of these academic disciplines became the foundation for his later sculptural works. His large-scale sculptures seem to be drawn into the air, they appear with ease and a certain randomness while being formed from heavy steel. Today, Bernar Venet’s work is on view in public space in Europe, Asia and the US. He is regarded as one of the most renowed contemporary artists worldwide. Galerie Boisserée is exhibiting sculptures, drawings and printmaking artworks spanning more than five decades from 1971 to 2026.

„Georg Baselitz: AVANTI!“
170 works by Georg Baselitz are currently on view at Museo Novecento in Florence. The retrospective exhibition focuses on Baselitz‘ printmaking oeuvre. Printmaking techniques accompany his entire work, especially the woodcut, the linocut and the aquatint etching.
Baselitz, who has lived close to Rome for many years, has also a strong connection to Italy and to the heritage of Italian art. The exhibition works out this relationship as well. A must-see for all who are planning to visit Florence or the Tuscany.

Sol LeWitt „Open Cubes in Color on Color“
We are thrilled to present a studio exhibition with a fine selection of printmaking artworks by the conceptual artist Sol LeWitt (1928-2007). Influenced by European artistic styles like Constructivism,  Bauhaus and De Stijl, LeWitt developed a very own pictorial language. His deep engagement with geometrical forms and their endless variation made him to one of the most important reprensentatives of Conceptual Art and Minimal Art. We are delighted to exhibit amongst others, works from his signature series „Open Cube in Color on Color“. These manifold variations of one and the same geometrical form are stunningly challenging and poetical at the same time. While this exhibition will take place in our studio, we will show artworks from our gallery program in an Accrochage in the further gallery rooms.

In Memory of the Painter Ralph Fleck (1951–2026)
It was with profound sadness that we learned of the sudden passing of Ralph Fleck.
Born in Freiburg in 1951, Ralph Fleck established a singular position within contemporary German painting from the 1980s on. Between 2003 and 2015, he passed on his artistic vision to his students as a Professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Nuremberg. Following his studies at the State Academy of Fine Arts Karlsruhe (1973–78), he created his first large-scale works in the richly impastoed oil technique that would become his unmistakable hallmark.
Ralph Fleck always started with direct observation: the city, architecture, a field in bloom, or the shell of an oyster. His concern was to approach the visible world through paint itself—through its materiality, texture, and structure. Out of the dense application of colour emerge almost portrait-like depictions of cake, tomatoes, cheese, or raw meat. Urban life, however, remained one of his most compelling subjects. His views of cities like Rome, New York, Paris, or London are all immersed in a light unique to each location.
His body of work has been presented in museum exhibitions and is represented in outstanding public and private collections around the world. His distinctive paintings, together with the galleries, museums, and collectors will ensure that his artistic legacy endures.
We had the privilege of exhibiting Ralph Fleck’s work in our gallery. So, we look back with great appreciation on the conversations that preceded every exhibition, as well as on our visits to his studio in Freiburg. Over the years, what began as a close professional relationship between artist and gallery grew into a friendship with Ralph Fleck and his partner, Ilse Klär. This personal bond allowed us to know not only the remarkable artist, but also the extraordinary person behind the work. The news of Ralph’s passing has filled us with deep sorrow. Our thoughts are with Ilse Klär and Ralph Fleck’s family and loved ones. We extend to them our heartfelt sympathy and deepest condolences.
