The international trade fair for museums, conservation and cultural heritage, EXPONATEC COLOGNE, is going into hiatus this year.

The decision to not carry out the trade fair in 2023 was made against the background of difficult economic basic conditions and too little potential, especially in the segment of museums and cultural institutions. The overall situation is currently causing uncertainty in the exhibition and restoration fields with regard to investments and innovations.

EXPONATEC COLOGNE was planned for 16 to 18.11.2023 in Cologne. The suspension of the trade fair this year enables a new positioning and conceptualisation of this event.

The facilities of Koelnmesse of course remain at the disposal of institutional partners who have already planned congresses and symposia for November.

EXPONATEC COLOGNE is a trade event that combines an exhibition, advanced training, and a technical event programme. It has taken place every two years in Cologne since 2004, most recently in 2021, when it provided 80 committed exhibitors a stage despite the uncertainties of a global pandemic.

Koelnmesse – Global Inspiration for Living, Contract and Public Spaces

Koelnmesse is the world’s top trade fair organiser for the areas of Living, Contract and Public Spaces.
At the trade fair hub of Cologne, in addition to imm cologne and interzum, other trade fair formats such as LivingKitchen, ORGATEC, spoga+gafa, FSB and aquanale are among the internationally renowned and established industry meeting places. These fairs comprehensively represent the interior and design segment, the furniture and interior construction industries' supplying sections, the kitchen world, all topics for the modern working world, garden lifestyle as well as public space, sports and leisure facilities and also sauna, pool and ambiente.

In addition to the events in Cologne, Koelnmesse is strategically expanding its portfolio in key growth markets around the globe.

On this occasion, we look back at the annual The Best in Heritage 2021 which awarded the National Museum of Wales, also known as the Amgueddfa Cymru. Their project Minecraft Your Museum, challenged kids to build their dream museum in Minecraft...

The digital transformation has become an everyday occurrence in museums, not least due to the Corona pandemic, and as in all other areas, it is impossible to imagine life without it. RESTAURO magazine spoke about this with Dr. Wolfgang Muchitsch, President of the Museumsbund Österreich and Scientific Director of the Universalmuseum Joanneum in Graz.

Final call to discover the secret techniques of masters such as Martini, Cranach, Rubens, Rembrandt, Friedrich, Manet and Monet...

Whether from the late Middle Ages, Baroque, Romanticism, Realism, Impressionism and Symbolism: over the past 20 years, art technologists of the Wallraf-Richartz-Museum & Fondation Corboud have been examining paintings by prominent painters of all periods.

Using X-rays, infrared and stereo microscopes, the experts not only gazed at the paintings top layers, but also looked behind the varnish, - whether on paper, canvas, wood, metal or even stone. The research results brought to light in this way are spectacular and are presented for the first time across epochs in the exhibition "Revealed!".

This unique glimpse behind the scenes of art will show 700 years of painting techniques in a new way and, thanks to the innovative forms of presentation, will enthuse a wide audience.

Open until February 13th, 2022. Learn more at https://www.wallraf.museum/ausstellungen/aktuell/2021-10-08-entdeckt/
