Tom-Tom Discotec presents Analog Africa on Saturday, September 26th -

w/ Samy Ben Redjeb, El Flambo, Asal, Hermes Villena.

Founded in 2005, Samy Ben Redjeb’s has been traveling with his cult label Analog Africa across the African continent and through Latin America for two decades to rescue lost masterpieces from oblivion. He tracks down dusty audio tapes, conducts interviews with the legends of yesteryear, and brings the golden years of global groove back to today’s sound systems. The result is an unmistakable, wonderfully raw analog sound: a wild symbiosis of West African funk, raw Afrobeat, Ethiopian jazz, Caribbean influences, and rare rhythms like Edo funk or cavacha.

The evening is rounded off by El Flambo, who grew up in Caracas in the ’80s and ’90s surrounded by Caribbean soundscapes. As a staunch advocate of pure vinyl culture, he weaves heavy salsa, raw cumbias, and tropical gems into a rhythmic tapestry that leaves no room for a break.

Support comes from two reliable selectors from the Cologne scene: Asal from the collective brings a handpicked selection of Cape Verdean funaná, zouk, and Senegalese compas, while Tom-Tom curator Hermes Villena lays the musical foundation for a night that effortlessly dissolves genre boundaries.

Tobias Thomas, born in April 1970 in southern Germany, has been part of the inner circle of the Cologne-based electronic music label KOMPAKT RECORDS since the early 1990s. From 1998 to 2014, he organized and hosted the legendary party series Total Confusion at what was once Studio 672, and is now JAKI. Total Confusion is one of the most famous and longest-running electronic music series in Cologne and influenced a whole generation.

Cologne scene heavyweights and MK BRAUN co-founded the legendary Cologne Sessions in 2011 and have shaped Studio 672 and JAKI with their unmistakable sound - a clear focus on community with a wild mix of experiments and crowd-pleasers, somewhere between Detroit house, electro, and house.

Tobias Thomas, geboren im April 1970 im Süden Deutschlands, gehört seit Anfang der 1990er-Jahre zum inneren Kreis des Kölner Elektroniklabels Kompakt. Von 1998 bis 2014 veranstaltete und moderierte er im damaligen Studio 672 (heute JAKI) die legendäre Partyreihe Total Confusion - eine der bekanntesten und langlebigsten Reihen für elektronische Musik in Köln, die eine ganze Generation beeinflusste.

Die Kölner Szenegrößen DJ Money und MK Braun haben 2011 die legendären Cologne Sessions mitinitiiert und das JAKI (ehemals Studio 672) mit ihrem unverwechselbaren Sound geprägt – ein klarer Fokus auf Gemeinschaft mit einer wilden Mischung aus Experimenten und Crowdpleasern, irgendwo zwischen Detroit-House, Elektro und House.

Tom Tom Discotec takes over Stadtgarten’s concert hall—with a lineup that perfectly captures where Cologne and the world meet on the dance floor. Coco María, one of the most influential voices on the international Afro-Latin scene, is the special guest. Her set combines joyful and obscure gems spanning jazz, samba, Latin funk, and cumbia, complemented by rarities from sunnier, faraway places.

She’ll be supported by Catalina Valencia and Tom-Tom Discotec’s curator Hermes Villena. La Cata Montesa brings pure energy from Afro-Caribbean and Latin American rhythms to the dance floor.

Find Cologne-based vinyl lover at Stadtgarten’s Café. He’s a man of few words when it comes to his work: “I prefer to let the music speak for itself.” Known for his minimalist, warm, and groovy sounds, he brings funk and soul to the dance floor—warm, exuberant, and full of feeling.

Die Tom Tom Discotec übernimmt den Saal – mit einem Line-up, das genau dorthin passt, wo Köln und die Welt sich auf der Tanzfläche treffen. Eingeladen ist Coco María, eine der prägendsten Stimmen der internationalen Afro-Latin-Szene. Ihre Selektion verbindet freudvolle und obskure Perlen zwischen Jazz, Samba, Latin-Funk und Cumbia, ergänzt um Raritäten aus sonnigeren, fernen Gegenden.

Unterstützt wird sie von La Cata Montesa und TTD’s Kurator Hermes Villena. La Cata Montesa bringt pure Energie afro-karibischer und lateinamerikanischer Rhythmen auf den Dancefloor.

Den Kölner Vinyl-Liebhaber Buteo findet ihr in Stadtgartens Café. Er bleibt wortkarg, wenn es um sein Schaffen geht: „Ich bevorzuge es, die Musik für mich sprechen zu lassen“. Bekannt für minimalistische, warme und groovige Sounds, bringt er Funk und Soul auf die Tanzfläche - herzlich, ausgelassen und mit viel Gefühl.

Coming back from JAKI’s summer break with a special guest:

Sandunguera has traveled all the way from Cali; she’s a DJ, a dancer, a collector—someone who doesn’t sort records by genre, but by what they do to a space. Salsa, merengue, cumbia, old-school reggaeton: anything that makes the floor vibrate.

Behind La Recocha are Frente Salsero and Colonia Caleña—two collectives that have been bringing Cologne’s Latin American scene together for years. Not as a folklore event, not as an exotic spectacle, but as what it is: a dance floor for people who carry music in their bodies.

La Recocha isn’t a concept with a manifesto. It’s a Saturday in September, a basement in Cologne, a community coming together on the dance floor. The rest just falls into place.
