Mike Leigh is one of Great Britain's most acclaimed contemporary directors, he is known for crafting monumental and realistic dramas that take place in the daily lives of ordinary British people. Leigh is a great defender of the tragic-comic sense of life, his films represent the passage of time, the importance of family, and the diversity of ideologies.

"...So, who are these guys? Wire consists of four members: Colin Newman, Graham Lewis, Robert Grey and Bruce Gilbert. Newman is the main songwriter and vocalist, yet all the members seem to have a major role in the band. So much so that when the drummer, Robert Gotobed, left in 1990, Wire decided to become 'Wir' to reflect the loss of one of their founding members. Seriously.

Gotobed never would return. However, almost a decade later, he rejoined them using his legal name, Robert Grey. 'Wir' was no more. It was Wire, once again...."

Jaimie Branch "Fly or Die II - Bird of Dogs" is a fantastic work of avantgarde jazz.

"Listening to trumpet player and multi-instrumentalist Jaimie Branch’s newest release, Fly or Die II: Bird Dogs of Paradise is like making an investment in the visionaries, believers and dreamers of tomorrow. It’s the discovery of music this inspiring and important which makes all this music collecting a worthwhile endeavour.

Fly or Die II functions at the social-political cross-section of jazz, hip-hop, and psychedelic folk. Light as a breeze one moment, heavy s**t the next. That may seem an inarticulate description, but it’s the only one that works here. This is such a potentially volatile mixture of avant-garde musical ideas and bold political dissent, that with less capable talent the brew could become a toxic mess. Fortunately for us, Branch weaves together the bold political spirit of a track like Prayer for Amerikkka with an intoxicating musical flow that is so righteous it's damn near addictive. As I said, heavy s**t indeed..."

The second part of EH Davis' quasi-fictional work takes him down to Harlem on a threatening night in 70s New York.

"...Dressed in my best casuals - a worsted-wool jacket from a thrift shop over a white tuxedo shirt and blue jeans, but without the Jim Bowie strap-on sheath that would become haute de rigueur later in my New York incarnation - I hopped on the IRT number 4 at 28th, headed uptown. On the way, as we shuttled from one station to the next, I watched the sprinkling of white passengers thin the closer to my destination, 125th, we came. By 116th St., I was the only person not of color.

Glancing around, I found hostility everywhere. Single professional women, Jerry-Curl-straightened-hair coifed and lacquered, dressed for the office in pant suits and starched ruffle shirts, sent poison darts my way, as though to say: I may have to put up with your s**t downtown, but now you’re on my turf, so watch yourself, Jack. Mothers with small children running up and down the aisles corralled them and hissed sit! Tired working men in grease-stained overalls strafed me and turned away, disgusted, as though dismissing me as a crazy white dude and a fool...."

After I became the new British dictator in pt. 7 of the chronicles, read how now I take over America by Simon playing his psychokinetic pipe at the 'Olympics of Democracy' in Washington D.C. ...

"...Of course he also became my court musician, and he was forced to perform my favorite song 24/7. A Moroccan shaman and snake charmer was flown in and gave Simon's flute playing in 'The Chauffeur' an alchemistic finish. Before bedtime, I would read him a psychokinetic version of my favorite legend, the Pied Piper of Hamelin. Dr. Laurel, a CIA defector who was a specialist on psychological warfare and MK Ultra programms, made sure that Simon obtained the same powers as the rat-catcher in these reading sessions, making him able to lure away masses with his flute playing.

After 4 months, Dr. Laurel declared Le Bon's training as complete, and after a few cadaverous test-runs where he drowned the residents of London and Cornwall, there was no doubt about the effectiveness of his powers. That night I claimed solitude and stepped out on my palace's balcony at the British shores. I was ready to enter the next phase of my divine task. My unfathomable gaze wandered around the nightly Atlantic, fixing the horizon in the direction of the coordinates that would take me to my next destination: Washington..."

Fate: Five Stories- I. Baked Ziti (the Debbie Harry Story) – Vinyl Writers

Our author EH Davis on how he met Debbie Harry in the 70s New York Punk Scene in pt.1 of his cycle "Fate: Five Stories":

"Baked Ziti" is a work of quasi-fiction describing a very vivid time in my life, when I walked the line as close to the edge as possible, proving myself at 29, a wet-behind the ears kid from Boston, capable of surviving on the mean streets of New York City.

It was my time of punk rock, 1976-81. As recounted in the “Fate Cycle”, I arrived with $10 in my pocket, not once but twice. I was in for a rude awakening, like Balzac’s Rastignac. I got my “edu-cation” as a writer started here, as described in my short story in the Fate Cycle, “Is You Educated”.

My intention was to explore the Zeitgeist of angst that drove the youth of that period to a slow slide into alienation, su***de, and he**in overdose. Autobiographically, I did meet and come under the spell of Ms. Harry, with her irrepressible energy and charisma. "Baked Ziti" is about her. "
