SPECIAL GUEST: VALENTIN MERZ · SAT, Dec 9th Filmmaker Valentin Merz will be present for the screening of „NACHTKATZEN“ and a live talk afterwards. „Nachtkatzen“ is an excessive, polymorphously perverse horror post-punk comedy! Featuring Bishop Black and many familiar faces from the Berlin scene. A film between reality and dream that sets new standards for q***r filmmaking.

A crew is shooting a libertine costume film when Valentin, the director, suddenly disappears. While the local police investigate, the film shoot continues but takes an odd turn. Robin, the cameraman and director’s lover, follows a promise… Program length: 125 min

After the screening of his films LES ASTRES NOIRS, LAND OF MY DREAMS, LES VACANCES CONTINUENT, NOUS NE SERONS PLUS JAMAIS SEULS, FOUR DE BASSAN & HIDEOUS we will talk about these films that he made between 2007 and 2022, about his films and filmmaking in general, about surrealism, q***r characters, monsters & demons, about different genres and styles.

Astrids research focuses on topics in critical, feminist and q***r theory, media philosophy and epistemology, temporality and media aesthetics.

"Safe" by Todd Haynes (1995) starring Julianne Moore is set in 1987, following a suburban housewife in L.A. whose monotonous life is abruptly changed when she becomes sick with a mysterious illness caused by the environment around her. LAND OF MY DREAMS: Yann Gonzalez • DEC 8th 19:00 • Short Film Program & Live Talk •
We are excited to show a full program of short films by french artist and filmmaker Yann Gonzales! Blonde Cobra has presented his films in several festival editions before and we are excited to welcome him for a live talk in Cologne. Gonzalez’s work is a surreal blend of neon lights, nocturnal vibes and q***r characters that magically blends in with the cobra soul.

Gonzales directed several short films before turning to full-length features like „You and the Night“ (2013) or „Knife + Heart „(2018). The band M83 with Yann’s brother Anthony Gonzalez as front man, wrote the music for several of his films. The latest music video „Oceans Niagara“ by M83, directed by Yann Gonzales, will be shown the same evening Friday night, 8th dec in the music video program „Embellishments“.
