The drawings are a series of rough proposals to replace current monuments that are used to impose forms of power and control, as well as perpetuate and commemorate white histories and individuals.

Winter mainly deals with painting, but he constantly questions it. To break out beyond the boundaries of the painted canvas is an artistic desire for Winter; he offers stories that are transformative. That’s why he often doesn’t just rely on the painted image, but adds elements from outside, installing them together with the painting. He tries to give the “classical art” of painting a new relevance in our world today.

Carano builds his canvases from within the medium’s history, but never with the intention to reconstruct a past but rather to solidify its present. Interestingly, this leads to a balancing act that is truly idiosyncratic.

Often working with found, salvaged or repurposed materials, Dudek constructs objects, installations, painting and performance, touching upon questions of power and aggression in the context of sport and cultural spectacle. His paintings offer insight into his overall approach, which incorporates a rather obsessive work ethic, meticulously slicing and manipulating medical tape, rubbing images into the cloth and building up a painting through collage.

I am fascinated by the physical embodiment of passion, camaraderie, and dedication among athletes. I am interested in the competitive and zealous qualities that make someone a fervent athlete, as well as the unique familial bond that is shared among teammates. In my paintings, the culture of all-women athleticism is a utopia, at turns comfortable, enticing and stimulating. The world I create is both recognizable and inaccessible, full of inside jokes and insular connections.
