Black Shack Recordings

Black Shack Recordings > These records still are benchmarks for many of the musicians out there and they weren't made with much equipment.

Founded in 2010, Black Shack Recordings soon became the top adress for lovers of Rockabilly, Country, Blues and R&B music in Germany and its neighboring countries. When you look at today's music industry, you may ask yourself: "Why would anybody need such a studio like Black Shack Recordings, when everything can be fixed in the post?"
At our studio we aim to bring the magic of recordings back, whi

ch were made in a golden era of music. All it needs is good musicians playing live in a room, and a producer who's making it sound and feel right in the first place. We are active musicians and part of the rockin' scene ourselves. So we understand your needs and stand by with our listening experience and a fine selection of vintage gear - a combination rarely found in modern studios. Blue Train just pulled in — hot sides on wax ⚡

Roll back to April 5, 2025 when stepped into the room to cut a full album, now out since Feb 27, 2026.

We first crossed paths with these cats on stages up north — this was their first stop at Black Shack, but it didn’t feel like it.

A classic, raw rockabilly lineup, with a harp that bites when it needs to. The rhythm section? Same engine you’ll hear behind Eddie & The Backfires — steady, driving, no fuss.

Band in one room, eyes up, songs rolling.

Tracked through vintage tube preamps, with a mix of classic German and America, microphones, then mixed down to tape with analog echo and plate doing their quiet work. A few small touches after the fact — but the heart of it was caught live.

That’s how you keep the wheels turning.

The record’s out now — “Blue Train.” Go give it a spin.

Two voices, two guitars — tape rolling, no safety net 🎙️

Back to March 2025, when from Munich stepped into the room to cut a full album in just two days.

A stripped-down acoustic duo: Gabe, a singer from the U.S., and João from Portugal — trading between fingerpicked guitar, slide work and harp, letting the songs breathe the way they’re meant to.

From the start the idea was clear: straight to tape, no overdubs. Just the performance as it happens. The kind of approach that leaves nowhere to hide — but captures the real character of the music.

To keep the sound wide and honest we ran the session to our Telefunken M15A, recording stereo straight to tape, with Neumann and Gefell microphones, the Studer mixer, and a touch of EMT plate reverb floating behind the room.

Two days.
One room.

A full record on tape.

Quiet music sometimes leaves the deepest mark.

Got songs that work best when nothing stands between them and the tape? Step into the room and let them speak.

She sings, the band swings — and the tape rolls ⚡

Roll back to December 15, 2024 when from Frankfurt stepped into the room to cut four hot sides for a vinyl EP.

Real-deal rockabilly: self-written tunes, tight band, and Susan out front where the singer belongs. We’d already crossed paths with these cats on shows around Europe, and guitar man Max was no stranger either — he’d been here before laying down violin for Sascha Kommer.

For this date we tipped the hat to the old ways — Sun-style room sound with a touch of those big Capitol vocal records. Susan stepped up to our Wunder Audio CM7 (U47-style) and the band kicked in behind her.

No tricks, no polish.
Just a band in a room cutting it live to tape.

That’s how rock ’n’ roll travels.

Got a stack of songs ready to spin? Come cut your own sides — tape rolling, lights low, band cookin’.

Hot swing for the cold season 🎄🎙️

Throwing it back to November 4, 2024 — when the room turned into a proper pre-Christmas dance hall.

Bad Mouse Orchestra stepped in to record “Merry Mousey Christmas” — our very first Christmas album cut at Black Shack, and it’s a classic kind of holiday record: pure 1920s and ’30s swing, no tinsel gimmicks.

This was our first session together — a special lineup built around two ukuleles, acoustic guitar and upright bass, with three to four voices weaving through the arrangements, led by the wonderful Charlotte Pelgen up front. Every instrument authentic, every harmony earned. A band of seasoned players, active across Europe and beyond, coming together for something timeless.

Tracked live in one room, the way these combos were meant to be heard.
One big Melodium 42B ribbon catching the band as a whole, upright bass through an RCA 44A, all running through Ampex tube preamps and printed to our Telefunken M5A tube tape recorder. Natural balance, natural bleed — it just felt right.
And yes — an RCA Varacoustic on sleigh bells sounds exactly as good as you hope it would.

Warm, lively, and swinging — the kind of Christmas record that doesn’t date.

Got a record that deserves that kind of care? Step into the room and let’s cut it proper — tape rolling, lights low, music first.
