We are happy having received a nomination as Company of the Year in the annual Critic Poll of tanz - Zeitschrift für Ballett, Tanz und Performance for our work FUTURALGIA, created by Nuria Guiu Sagarra! 🎉🐬✌️

Falk Schreiber says: "Unusual Symptoms (Bremen) for 'Futuralgia': Pop, dance and sketchy material become a whole. Including distancing rules." Thanks for recognizing our work!

We were actually about to retake FUTURALGIA tonight, but had to cancel this weekend's shows due to an injury. But no worries: We'll postpone the performances to early November and will be back next week with STARTING FROM SCRATCH at Theater Bremen. Stay tuned! 💥

Synergy Lab 2021 - Stream - Theater Bremen

It's a wrap! Another challenging season comes to an end. And yet there have been so many moments we've been able to share with each other. We're grateful for every single one of them and looking forward to whatever the new season might bring! We will now take a few weeks break and then be back in full swing from September on. As a farewell, we'd like to share with you the final documentation of Synergy Lab, which has been one of those long-stretched moments of encounter & community we enjoyed so much this summer. Thanks for your support, take care, stay healthy and enjoy the next few weeks as much as possible! 🐬🍉🧃

Looking forward to the projections of their work and all the other artists over the course of the next days. Saturday night they will also be shown at Theater Bremen, check all spots and times at tanz-bremen.com and don't miss if you are in town!

Heute Abend in Bremen: Die DIGITAL DIALOGUES starten.

Who would have thought, that a virtual clubnight could cause a real hangover? Thanks so much for burning down the house with us last night, tuning in from New York, Paris, Barcelona, El Salvador, Bremen and many other places in the world! SUPERCLUB was huge fun and we are so happy that you were checking in on all of yesterday's events. It's hard to believe, but today is already the last day of Three Days of Dance online. So get your funky bones out of bed and prepare for three very special international works today! We start the day at 12.00 CET again with an audio capsule by Barcelona-based artist Suetszu, who created a musimentary (music-documentary) based on research for an upcoming dance-piece by Andy Zondag/Unusual Symptoms. At 17.30 CET we are excited to present an audio choreography by New York/L.A. based choreographer Faye Driscoll who we are looking forward to work with next year! And the closing event of the festival will stream at 18.30 CET with the documentation of a mesmerizing work by Budapest based choreographer Máté Mészáros. All of today's works will be subsequently available on demand for another 7 days, as well as many other works we presented yesterday and it is still possible to get tickets via bit.ly/DreiTageTanzOnline ! 💥

Congrats to our ensemble member Aaron Samuel Davis for being picked as one of the 25 dancers to watch out for by the influential US Dance Magazine. As soon as we‘re allowed to go back on stage, you bet it‘s going to be on 🔥🔥🔥

GOOD NEWS:
„Aaron Samuel Davis dances like someone who never lost the magic of moving like a child. There‘s an unselfconscious innocence and sense of discovery about his dancing, combined with obviously hard-core training - he has an MFA from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. His piercing gaze seems to see right into your soul.“ (Dance Magazine, Januar 2021)

Oh 2020, you‘ve been quite something. So much has been said - we just hope that you‘ll be able to end this year in good spirits. That there‘s been moments of joy for you besides the tragedy. And that there will be a time for us to reconnect with each other soon. We miss you. See you on the other side! 💜

UNUSUAL SYMPTOMS

Unusual Symptoms is a contemporary dance company, initially founded by french-algerian choreographer Samir Akika and now being run by long-term collaborators Alexandra Morales and Gregor Runge. Since its inception as a freelance ensemble in 2009, the company has toured the works of Samir Akika internationally, realized numerous projects and workshops across the globe within a long lasting and deep working relationship with the Goethe Institute and has also gathered extensive experience in working with alternating multidisciplinary and intercultural production connections with both professional ensembles as well as with amateurs and young actors. Since 2012, Unusual Symptoms are company-in-residence at Theater Bremen, whose dance department since then has been led by them.

Unusual Symptoms’ works take inspiration from different methods and artistic as well as cultural influences that flow together in open work processes. The differing approaches in content and style inherent in the different works always react anew to current artistic requirements. From the 2018/2019 season on, Alexandra Morales and Gregor Runge took over the company's artistic reins, opening its doors even more than before to working with varying guest choreographers. Unusual Symptoms produce works with internationally renowned choreographers like Samir Akika, Máté Mészáros, Núria Guiu Sagarra, Helder Seabra and Adrienn Hód/HODWORKS, continue to initiate projects with young adults and semi-professional performers and collaborate with artistic partners around the globe.
