Bremen ist UNESCO City of Literature, zusammen mit 63 anderen Städten weltweit. Keine 250 Kilometer entfernt liegt die nächste City of Literature: Leeuwarden, Hauptstadt der niederländischen Provinz Friesland. Grund genug, den Kolleg*innen vor Ort einen Besuch abzustatten, vor allem nachdem diese uns bereits im Januar besucht hatten. Bei einem ersten Stadtspaziergang wurde schnell klar: Die friesische Poesie scheint allgegenwärtig zu sein – ob auf Steinplatten in den Straßen, auf diverse Haustüren oder auf der Fassade der Touristeninformation. Dies bestätigte sich auch bei einem Rundgang mit den unglaublich netten Kolleg*innen Ernst, Tryntsje, Sito und dem City-Poeten Arjan Hut, u.a. mit Stippvisiten beim friesischen Verlag und Buchladen afûk, der beeindruckenden Bibliothek und beim Hauptsitz des Festivals „Explore the North“. Für Fans der Poesie ist die Stadt ein Muss, sehr schön ist sie auch noch. Wir kommen auf jeden Fall wieder J

Bremen is one of 63 UNESCO Cities of Literature worldwide. The very next City of literature is located less than 250 kilometers away: Leeuwarden, provincial capital of the Provincial Council of Friesland. Reason enough to pay a visit to our colleagues there – especially since they had already visited us back in January. During our initial stroll through the city, it quickly became clear: Frisian poetry seems to be omnipresent – whether inscribed on stone slabs embedded in the streets, featured on various front doors, or etched into the front of the tourist information center. This was also confirmed during a guided tour with our incredibly friendly colleagues – Ernst, Tryntsje, Sito, and the City Poet, Arjan Hut. Highlights included visits to the Frisian publishing house and bookstore afûk, the impressive library, and the headquarters of the festival "Explore the North". For fans of poetry, this city is an absolute must-visit – and it happens to be incredibly charming, too. We will definitely be back! :)
