MARTIN MLECKO - PRIVATE LIFE
Opening: Saturday, March 12, 6 - 9 pm
Duration: March 12 - April 16, 2022

‘Private Life’ is made up of 300 photos found at flea markets or in the personal archives of friends and family. Taken between the 1960s and 1990s these amateur photographs cover a broad spectrum of subjects - parties, a day at the beach, kissing your aunt on the cheek, or a favorite pet. Out of thousands of images collected, Mlecko selected and reworked the photographs seen in this exhibition.

ARTIST TALK
Tomorrow, March 3rd at 7 pm, Linda Havenstein will be in conversation with Prof. Dr. Fabian Schäfer and curator Sandra Teitge about her solo exhibition 'In Tongues'.

For 'In Tongues', Havenstein has created a series of paintings and sculptures which further explore her interest in language, codification, and the post-digital. Havenstein's upbringing in Eastern Germany influences her work directly and indirectly. The works have a hidden layer which is only revealed with the help of Kassandra. This app gives the viewer a second reading and allows the works to be deciphered from a binary point of view.

The talk will take place mostly in German.

SAVE THE DATE! OPENING: JANUARY 21th | LINDA HAVENSTEIN | "IN TONGUES" | JAN 22 - MAR 5, 2022
For her first solo exhibition “In Tongues” at Dorothée Nilsson Gallery Linda Havenstein created a series of paintings and sculptures which further explore her interest in language, codification, and the post-digital.
Her paintings hint at the figurative, the sculptures appear to be an examination of material culture of the 20th century, yet both have a hidden layer that is only revealed with the help of Kassandra. This app gives the viewer a second reading and allows the works to be deciphered from a binary point of view. A language that is used daily is exposed, written down in a new manner, and allows the viewer to explore its material qualities. Havenstein aims to render the digital in an analog manner by applying paint to canvas and reorganize everyday materials. @lindahavenstein #paintings #sculpture #digitalart #installation #berlin

Warmly welcome to the exhibition Luminous Matter by the artist duo Inka & Niclas!

Dorothée Nilsson Gallery presents a selection of works by the artist duo from the series Luminous Matter, Family Portraits, and Liquify, that Inka & Niclas has worked on simultaneously. Throughout their work the artists have investigated our contemporary perception of nature through the photographic medium.

In the exhibition Luminous Matter, the artist duo have narrowed their perspective, both in terms of subject matter and geography. In their latest works, Inka & Niclas continue their examination of nature as a cultural construct, addressing their childhood and cultural heritage. The series Luminous Matter centers around depictions of wildflowers and weeds found closer to the artists-native surroundings - flowers so common in the Swedish scenery, that they almost go unnoticed in our collective consciousness. The introspective approach is coherent with the current universal strive towards understanding and being close to one's local habitat.

Inka (*1985, Finland) and Niclas (*1984, Sweden) Lindergård are an awarded artist duo who works primarly with photography-based art. They have worked together since 2007 and live in Stockholm. Their work have been exhibited and published internationally with participation in more than 30 exhibitions in the last years. Inka & Niclas' works are included in private and public collections worldwide, including the Gothenburg Museum of Art (Sweden), the Fried Museum (The Netherlands) and the Public Art Agency (Sweden).

Due to Covid-19 and to ensure the hygiene measures, visits of the gallery are only possible by appointment via mail ([email protected]). Appointments are feasible outside the regular opening hours (Wednesday - Saturday, 12 am - 6 pm). Wearing a medical mouth-nose protection /FFP2 mask during your visit of the exhibition is mandatory and we look forward to welcoming you to the exhibition.

We’re happy to announce that our current exhibition Sascha Weidner - Aurora will be extended until December 23.

The exhibition contains both vintage and posthumous prints from Weidner’s various creative periods. The artist called himself a “romantically moved traveler“, his work evokes a radically subjective pictorial world that is permeated by moments of melancholic longing. His innovative use of light emphasizes the unknown and neglected sites and scenes upon which it falls.

Sascha Weidner’s exhibition Aurora is a part of the EMOP program, starting on October 01. The European Month of Photography presents more than 100 exhibitions, covering the wide spectrum of contemporary and historical photography. SUSA TEMPLIN I PREMISES.
Opening today
Exhibition: June 13. to August 29. 2020

In this exhibition, the artist presents her new, multi-layered series "Spatial Abstractions" made of printed plexiglass and pigment prints. Templin developed this group of works in 2019 while on a scholarship at the Berlin Foreign Office’s so called ,,Roof Studio.”

Templin creates her "Spatial Abstractions" using large-format, photographic collages which overlap in scale and material, representing a further development of her multi-dimensional examination of photography. These works focus on the spatial exploration of the two-dimensional photographic image. Templin addresses the contradiction between space and surface in her art and develops new forms on the surface of her transparent image carriers.

In her photographic works Templin conceives of new spaces and also utilizes sculptural working methods [in their realization]. For these pictorial constructions, the artist draws on her archive of self-taken, analogue colour photographs, all of them images of places and spaces the artist inhabited or encountered. They appear as penetrating, complementary or distorting memories and associations. Templin's works thereby question the conditions of architecture: "My pictorial spaces are constructed from experiences that have become pictorial, and using new transparent materials, they create realities layered in colour and perspective.”

UPCOMING!
MARTINA HOOGLAND IVANOW | EARLY READING
OPENING: January 10, 2020, 6 pm (Jan 11 - Feb 29 2020

Wishing you all Happy Holidays and a peaceful New Year!!

We are looking forward to our next solo exhibition with Martina Hoogland Ivanow!
In her new series "Early Reading" she documents the traces of touches and past tactile stimuli. For her series "Early Reading", the artist worked with the method of thermography, a technique that allows the visualization of experiences, the human eye can't capture. Hoogland Ivanow describes this as heat shadows. Pictures of childhood moments convey the feeling of a closeness that promises intimacy and protection. Images of demonstrations, the artist captured with a thermal camera, describe steps out of a confort zone. The act of activism appears in a tension of trust and fear. Not only is the camera of artistic importance, it's also an instrument of monitoring.

Hoogland Ivanows video work "Interbeing" completes the exhibition. The subject of the black sun, the artist uses in the movie, draws parallels to the art of Minor White, a pioneer of the artistic work with thermographic techniques.

Martina Hoogland Ivanow (1973) studied Fine Art, Major in Photography at Parsons School of Design, New York and Paris and exhibited in several international institutions, for example the Moderna Museet in Stockholm, Künstlerhaus Bethanien in Berlin, The Hermès Foundation in New York and the International Filmfestival in Rotterdam. She lives and works in Stockholm.

Susa Templins installation Landscaping can be seen at Kunsthalle Mannheim until March 15, 2020. The artist created a diorama out of photographic collages. Landscaping is an imagineted dream forest that seems to grow at the museum, a counter image to urbanity . Templins work with the medium of photography does not focus on documenting reality, it’s an expression of her own concepts, concerns and fictions.
