Tonight 8 p.m @salonammoritzplatz

“Read the Book” is an interactive musical performance, featuring a book object by Rachel Libeskind and Julia Bosson with musical intervention by Gur Liraz. The Book is a symbolic object, informed by myths and fables of storytelling. It contains an archive of visual and literary references that are in dialogue with Jewish traditions of reading and interpretation. The performance will be 30 minutes long and will begin at 8pm promptly. Refreshments will be served.

This talk is a part of a month long exhibition series. For the full LABA Berlin 2021 exhibition program, please visit: www.aufbruch-am-ufer.berlin/laba-berlin

This event will follow a "2G" format, proof of vaccination or recovery will be required for entry.

In October @salonammoritzplatz gave space to 'Architecture after Architecture', a UK-German team of architects and academics based at Central Saint Martin (University of Arts London) and the Technische Universität Braunschweig to answer the question 'What happens to architecture after the climate emergency undoes it's foundational assumptions of growth, extraction, and progress?'

The primary objective of the project is to develop scenarios for new forms of spatial practice in the context of the climate emergency. These will have broad relevance to architects and other professionals (planners, geographers, policy makers) working in spatial production, built, natural and social.
Over the course of the first phase, we have had meetings, conversations, discussions and panels with a multidisciplinary, global public; we have published in different mediums, e.g. through climate conversation with international practitioners, various papers, and podcasts on the Anthropocene and Care; and we are currently in the process of setting up the open-access database with a growing list of international examples of how practitioners are using various approaches in the face of the climate emergency. It is funded by the UK Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) and the German Research Foundation (DFG). After months of virtual conversations, the team could finally meet in Berlin for the first time: Jeremy Till and Tatjana Schneider (Principal Investigators); Anthony Powis, Becca Voelcker, Christina Serifi (Research Fellows), Sarah Bovelett and Julius Grambow (Research Assistants).

“The premise is that this emergency demands systemic change to the way we live, and these will be accompanied by changes to how social relations play out in space and new forms of spatial practice.”(Jeremy Till)

I invite an alter ego to make a song for a show. They fight in the middle of the day and in plain sight. That’s it. One faints as she breathes in too much of the fresh air. It´s here, right here, where the branches hang low and darkness swallows the outlines of two arms and two pairs of hands like paws. There is a melancholia to it, the moment you wait at a corner for something to happen, waiting, and all there is is smell and that’s the memory that will stick. Moving forward and breathing the air of future passed, two eyebrows are crawling on a sidewalk. Space trash lands in the middle of the road: ambiguous in its heritage and cause and consequences. It´s early dawn a strip of light falling between pink fingers blooming. I remember when we travelled it felt like my skin absorbed stuff, walking through the mist.

You are not alone
03.09.2021 - 13.09.2021
Opening: 18:00 Friday 03.09.21 Daily 14:00 to 22:00
While the isolation imposed by governments worldwide during the Covid-19 pandemic protected us from the dangers of a contagious virus, it also exposed us to the ever growing threat of separation on our psychological and social health. In these challenging times only our collective awareness that none of us are in this alone — that human beings everywhere on this planet face the same threat — allowed us to keep our solidarity, our togetherness and our strength while in quarantine.
This exhibition is a collective effort and joint statement from 180 artists around the globe that we stand together and that we will always find our space to create, adapt and stand strong.
These 300 multiple-medium artworks are the result of an open call released in March 2020 by the Penticton art gallery in Canada, the Syria.art Association (Nice/Berlin) and the Online Cyrrus Gallery celebrating a strong and creative partnership and demonstrating the ability of art in bringing people together.
These works will be kept as an archive to serve as a time capsule, a permanent document of this moment in our collective history. The collection will be made available for loan to other galleries and museums across the globe and in a permanent online exhibition. The exhibition was shown in Penticton, Canada in September 2020 and will be shown in Nice, France in 2022.
Curated by Humam Alsalim and Paul Crawford.

You are not alone
03.09.2021 - 13.09.2021 in Salon Am Moritzplatz, Berlin.
Opening: Friday 03.09.21
With the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting imposition of self-isolation, the Penticton Art Gallery, in partnership with the Syria.art Association (Nice/Berlin) and the online Cyrrus Gallery, invited artists from across the globe to participate in an unprecedented art exhibition entitled, You Are Not Alone. Like a message in a bottle, we sent out a call to artists working in all media, to submit works which would serve as a testament to our resiliency, creativity, and collective humanity in face of these extraordinary times.
We hoped this exhibition would not only celebrate the power of art, but will serve as a celebration of our diversity, culture, and be an important reminder, that regardless of where we live on this planet, we are not alone. For the artists whose work is represented, this was their opportunity to reach out to a global audience and share their voice and story while celebrating the beauty and creativity they have brought into this world through their art. Now more than ever we need to come together to celebrate our collective humanity. No one is immune to this pandemic and we hope this will help us get through this time by allowing us to share our stories, celebrate our diversity, mourn our losses, and heal as a planet.
These works will be kept as an archive to serve as a time capsule, a permanent document of this moment in our history. The collection will be made available for loan to other galleries and museums across the globe. If you would be interested in hosting this exhibition, please contact us to make arrangements for hosting this exhibition.
The exhibition was shown in Penticton, Canada last September and will be shown in Nice, France next summer.
