The Diplomatic Choir of Berlin

The Diplomatic Choir of Berlin seeks to facilitate understanding between people through music. Our choir began on November 5th, 2013.

The Diplomatic Choir of Berlin is a group of people from all over the world that come together to sing and perform concerts. We are either diplomats, from the foreign offices, or members of the Berlin community. Three weeks later, on November 27th, we did our first concert at the Rotes Rathaus, which was a benefit concert to support the victims of Typhoon Haiyan that had recently devastated the Ph

ilippines. Since then, we have sung in Berlin at such locations as, the Auswärtiges Amt, the Italian Embassy with the Foreign Ministry Choir of Rome, the Kreuzkirche, the Kaiser Wilhelm Gedächtniskirche, and the Berlin Cathedral. We are always growing and welcome new voices to join the choir. Our director is Barbara Leifer. She holds a master's degree from the Juilliard School in New York City and is a professional musician and opera singer. If you are interested in joining, please contact us at [email protected]. And we’re keeping it going with our choir intros! Today, Angelika shares a bit about herself: (🇩🇪 below)

“My name is Angelika May. I’m from North Frisia and worked as a journalist until the end of 2019. About ten years ago, I was looking for a choir and got super lucky to find The Diplomatic Choir of Berlin. Without any audition, the director Barbara Leifer just invited me to come along. As an alto, I was already singing in the Berlin Cathedral after just three months of rehearsals, performing in our ‘Concert Without Borders’ 🤩

The song choices, the pure joy of singing in rehearsals, and the choir’s international mix – that’s what makes this group so special to me. It’s an awesome community that’s always open to new voices and makes it super easy for anyone who’s just starting out to feel right at home ❤️

Und weiter geht es mit der Vorstellung unseres Chores, heute erzählt Angelika ein bisschen über sich:

„Mein Name ist Angelika May. Ich bin in Nordfriesland geboren und habe bis Ende 2019 als Journalistin gearbeitet. Vor 10 Jahren war ich auf der Suche nach einem Chor und hatte das große Glück, den Diplomatic Choir of Berlin zu finden. Ohne Vorsingen lud die Leiterin Barbara Leifer dazu ein, einfach dazuzukommen. Als Altistin stand ich nach drei Monaten Chorproben im Berliner Dom und habe unser ,Konzert ohne Grenzen‘ mitgesungen 🤩

Die Auswahl der Stücke, die Sangesfreude in den Proben, die multinationale Zusammensetzung des Chores – das alles macht für mich unseren wunderbaren Chor aus. Eine tolle Gemeinschaft, die offen ist für jede Verstärkung und es neuen SängerInnen leicht macht, Anschluss zu finden ❤️
