WRITING DIARIES

Back to reality. Deadlines are approaching and it is sunny outside but I push limits and feel the warmth of the first day of summer while getting back to writing the script of "In their own Flesh". At the same time preparing the dossier for the application for funding and and and.

I'm actually pretty happy because damn! I'm very lucky to be able to work on the film with colleagues and friends, of being able to go deeper into the research and having the money for it.

But the outside is a temptation and it will be always a balance act between pleasure and work(pleasure)

A few months ago I told my dear partner at that we do not do work. We passionate. Thinking that it is a privilege to work and spend time doing the things we also like to do.

It is not a dream and sometimes it isn't easy either. Hey, today is Fête de la musique and my favorite day of the year, because is mango time. But I also want to know how this project will go on. As the Germans say. Ich bin auch gespannt!

And hey, this film makes everyday more sense: look at the crazy state of the world. Choosing not to kill each other is actually a very urgent option.

So, Happy Summer Solstice. Celebrating love for the things we still have.

La experiencia de migrar cambia la vida por completo. Una anda incompleta por el resto del tiempo. Casa es un concepto que muta, dependiendo de la dirección del viaje. Voy al lugar donde nací? O hacia donde vivo y trabajo? Hubo un tiempo en el que pensaba que yo era muchos fragmentos, que me definía ese vacío, ese estar incompleto. No ser de allí, ni de allá. Después de casi 14 años he cambiado la perspectiva, también porque hoy en el lugar donde vivo he construido una vida y tengo una familia extendida. Hoy creo que la experiencia de migrar me hizo volver un puente, como un no lugar, dónde siempre se puede transitar de un lado a otro. Navegar el tránsito es un reto sin duda. Sobre todo el puente es un dispositivo de conexión, (yo agrego, de traducción) entre orillas, culturas, lenguas, y formas de ser. 

Esto marca claro mi forma de trabajo, mis intereses y la forma en que diálogo con el mundo y las personas.

A veces es complejo, no voy a poner solo rosas sobre la historia, pero sobre todo hoy creo que soy muy afortunada de sentirme en casa, y de sentir tanto amor, aquí y allá. Este viaje a Colombia fue muy importante, fue regresar en la arqueología de mi pasado, pasar tiempo conciente con la familia de nacimiento y de (tratar de) poner el filtro del amor a esa mujer que fui hasta cuando decidí irme. Los encuentros y las conversaciones tenidas en estos 60 días llenaron el espíritu. Reflexiono siempre críticamente lo que veo y siento, pero al final logré estar ahí, presente. Y al irme, para volver, lloré, porque el dolor de la partida es real. Es puro. Y nada más bello, que poder sentir y dejar ser.

Estás imágenes son instantes, favoritas, recuerdos, formas de acercarme a estos paisajes y colores. Me siento muy agradecida por poder ir y volver, regresar en ambos sentidos, de sentir tanto amor a mi alrededor. Hasta pronto!

Dear Friends,

The year 2022 was filled with movement: Travels, movings, dissolutions, separations, beginnings, continuations. It was a challenge to find points of stillness and orientation, but motion is an indicator of strength and persistence, and like the light of a lighthouse I have followed its trail, because it indicates the impossibility of slowing down the continuing force of life: to create and live each day as if it were a new frame of animation (endless, but with variations!).
I thank all those who have accompanied me this year with their ideas, their good talks and their trust. I am grateful that we worked together, that we met again, that we toasted and celebrated. That we met and crossed paths as we came and went. And I wish you much trust and love for the year 2023, which will surely bring many more surprises and hopefully new encounters.

El año 2022 estuvo lleno de movimiento: viajes, mudanzas, clausuras, rupturas, inicios, continuaciones. Fue un reto encontrar calma y puntos de enfoque, pero el movimiento es un indicador de fuerza y persistencia y como una luz de un faro, seguí su pista pues indica que no hay forma de detener la fuerza perpetua de la vida: seguir a cada día como si fuera un nuevo frame de una animación (sin fin pero con variaciones!)
Agradezco a todxs los que me acompañaron este año con sus ideas, con sus consejos, con su confianza. Agradezco que trabajamos juntos, o que nos encontramos de nuevo, o que pudimos brindar y celebrar. Que nos cruzamos en los ires y venires. Y les deseo mucha confianza y amor para el 2023 que seguro traerá muchas más sorpresas y espero nuevos encuentros.

Tomorrow the 7th of November in Lodz I’m pitching at Animarkt Stop Motion Forum https://www.animarkt.pl/start/ my next film project "In their own flesh / En Carne Propia" The script was developed in the program in Thuringia in 2020 and I just started the visual development with Lucie Nichelmann and working on the sound design with Carolina Lucio with a grant of the State Chancellery of Thuringia.

I have been invited to give a lecture about my work in Animation in the series of lectures "BAUHAUS MASTERS" ----> "Animation by chance" will be a lecture on how chance (Zufall, casualidad, randomness) is part of my artistic work and have driven my personal decisions related to my professional path. I will show some of my work, the process of it and will tell how I became an animation artist although it wasn't the original life plan. Thank you for the invitation. It has been a week now since the festival weekends, when we gathered talented artists, poets, filmmakers and good friends and we welcomed them in our little city Weimar! I'm so grateful to have the chance to work with friends and colleagues I admire so much. Guido Naschert and my trio fantastico of the direction team, who with her easy going way of working planed an amazing networking gathering, for moderating the Q&A with the filmmakers, for curating with me "Women in Resistance". .motion for taking care of the technical issues (sound and image), The is a small festival where we enjoy poetry as a way of living. So happy because some of team got together during the festival and they watched for the first time the film together. Bibiana Rojas thank you for sharing your work with my students. And to all the rest of the team, to all our friends who supported us and all guests who came from different corners of the world. It was a blast! You still have the possibility to watch the films online and to vote for the best film as part of the audience award. (Link in the stories)

Dieses Jahr bringt Veränderungen! Und nun ab dem Sommer werde ich zusammen mit GatoMono-Design Catalina Franka Sachse Jane Franke bei der WerkBank Weimar mitmachen. Das heißt, wir werden teil einer Gruppe von Kreativen aus Weimar, die der alten Münzbank an der Schubertstr. 10 kaufen wollen, um da in der Innestadt, unsere Büros zu haben. Um das Haus kaufen zu können sind wir auf der Suche von Freund_innen, die sie uns mit Direktkredite unterstützen. Dabei gibt es mehr Zinsen als bei dem Bank/Sparbuch!

I'm heading to Vienna for this year's festival! So happy to be part of the international forum talking about under the light of Intergenerational Trauma and being part of the Jury of the International Competition. I was in Vienna three years ago and it was absolutely inspiring! I felt a lot energy and good vibes about being with other women animators and feeling the power of recognizing and supporting their work.
The festival is happening hybrid and the programs can be watched online also. And if you are also in Vienna, drop me a line and let's meet!

Dear Friends and colleagues: I'm glad this is happening next week here in Erfurt at the Kunsthalle: From the 17th til the 20 of Febrary our film "Song of the Flies" / will screen every day from 11h-18h. Entry is free! On the 19th there's an artist talk at 4:30pm, during which I'll tell a bit more about the film and how we produced it. I hope to see you there!
Song of the flies is an animated 3-part film in which over the course of a day the audiovisual dialogue of nine Colombian women artist shapes a map of terror where massacres took place in Colombia in the 1990s and builds a polyphony of memory and mourning, a universal song of pain. Inspired by the book of poems by Maria Mercedes Carranza (1945-2003).
