#UNHATE Through Artistic Intelligence is back with Equal Esports Festival Vol. 2! We are proud to be part of Digital X 2022 through our collaboration with Elastique, together with Deutsche Telekom, where #unhate is exhibited on the 13th and 14th of September.
The interactive experience promotes meaningful use of technology and online presence. With the help of artificial intelligence, real online hate speech is transformed into aesthetic pieces of art and thus deprived of its toxicity.
flora&faunavisions also created one of three AI-generated artful tranformations to the #unhate user experience: the “progressive mode".

Based on the internationally renowned Science Fiction book "Der Schwarm" by Frank Schätzing, a new series will be launched by ZDF in 2023.
In the run up to the series premiere - an event by ZDF, as part of Re:publica, introduced first guests to the series and we were asked to create an immersive experience for the evening.
We created four water worlds across a 22-metre-long wall and a screen on the stage which transported the audience to a transforming underwater universe.
Timely as ever, our water worlds reflect the story of Der Schwarm - a mysterious underwater being that is looming, reminding us of the inevitable effects of our actions on our oceans.

A new film of Mountain Seaing, an immersive show which breaks the boundaries of classical theater: full interactive immersion in an interpretation of Chinese masterpiece Classic of Mountains and Seas.
Our modern interpretation of this masterpiece is a multimedia immersive performance. We broke traditional theater architecture by creating a non-seated space, where the audience are invited to move around freely whilst the dancers and performers fly above their heads and interact with the media layers on all four sides of the theater.
For each chapter, we created emotional and interactive content using Notch technology, which allows the visitors and dancers to interact with the projection surface creating even more spectacular patterns on the walls - breaking the boundaries between classical scenography, gaming and participation between actors, stage and the visitors.

We created the visual language for our Coachella stage concept using defined elements inspired by Solomun's Nobody is not Loved album concept.
With the human as a central element, we follow a narrative that celebrates our physical reunion through music, and in turn, our union with music itself.
Kicking off the performance with the track Swing, we begin to break out of digital isolation with music as our guide.

Over the next few weeks, we will be sharing snippets from the media content we have created for Solomun's shows at Coachella. The visual concept for the stage is inspired by the narrative of Solomun’s 2021 album “Nobody is not loved”.
We created media content for the 3 large LED screens behind and at the two sides of the Outdoor Theatre stage. The visuals on the three screens have a seamless visual language spanning across the stage, and accompany Solomun's tracks throughout his electric performance.

We had the pleasure of collaborating with @Elastique on the Human Immersive Experience for @telekom.
flora&faunavisions also created one of three AI-generated artful tranformations to the #unhate user experience: the “progressive mode”.
Posted @withregram • @elastiquedesign Together with Deutsche Telekom, in collaboration with flora&faunavisions we have developed an immersive experience that makes a statement for the meaningful use of technology.
#UNHATE BY ARTISTIC INTELLIGENCE
This immersive experience provides an artistic intervention to counteract the omnipresence of hate in digital spaces. It is a peaceful statement that raises awareness of the need to be more considerate to each other. With the help of artificial intelligence, real online hate speech is transformed into aesthetic pieces of art and thus deprived of its toxicity. Three artistic intelligences have been developed – each opening a different aesthetic world. The resulting #UNHATE visuals could be published as responses to the original hate posts.
Thank you Deutsche Telekom for standing up, being brave and developing this peaceful intervention together with us.
Especially in these times, it is more important than ever that we all treat each other respectfully and support fruitful communication across all borders.
Due to the current situation in Ukraine, #Unhate posts are currently deactivated. Please stay tuned!

Genius Immersive Experience: Mona Lisa chat bot
The three women of the chat bot come to life on the centerpiece. If they were living today, what would they be doing and how would they be influential? We took inspiration from idols today such as Billie Eilish who inspires body positivity. Would Leonardo da Vinci’s portraits have been of such figures today? How would they inspire us? Mona Lisa, Cecilia Gallerani and Ginevra de’ Benci were each independent women who Leonardo da Vinci painted with respect to their personalities and character - unusual for portraits at the time, particularly of women. Our three empowered women come to life with the chat bot and engage in conversation with visitors on relevant topics of today: arts & culture, fashion, and health.
We used AI technology to create facial expressions that enable the portraits to react to the content of the chat. As for any chat bot, this part relies on multiple tools that are used in the backend. Setting up and training the chatbot can be quite challenging, as it develops over time.
The chat itself was developed based on three portraits, each uniquely trained with specific personality traits embedded in them which relate not only to the background story of the subject, but also to empowering related topics of today.

Genius Immersive Experience: The Last Supper
We went through several ideas concerning The Last Supper and wondered whether we would reinterpret it as many have done, especially in the digital age. Rather than retelling an already great story, we decided to find a way to come closer to it through interaction and an exploration of painting techniques. Leonardo had chosen the unconventional technique of applying egg tempera onto a plaster wall, a very experimental creative choice on his part. In this spirit, we decided to experiment with digital brush strokes and add yet another painting layer onto the Last Supper.
One thing we always tried to incorporate into the show was digital art which Leonardo would undoubtedly have tried his masterful hand at if he lived today. The last supper was already painted with an experimental technique back then, and we decided to give it the digital equivalent with the interaction on the painting itself as well as a digitally remodeled version on the cube.
The information of the colours and strokes from the Last Supper on the outer walls, triggered by visitors interacting with the image, is collected and the data is redesigned to create the abstract moving image on the centerpiece.

Genius Immersive Experience with the creators: An amazing ride

Genius Immersive Experience: Portraits
Leonardo da Vinci painted several androgynous figures among his portraits. Controversial at the time due to feminine depictions of male religious figures, he never shied away from expressing himself the way he saw fit. We have now come full circle – modern day queer culture has come back in full swing, and we’re here for it. Drawing a link in portraiture and androgyny from the past to the present, we use photographs of contemporary androgynous individuals which blend into his portraits on the walls. While Leonardo apparently used his imagination to create androgynous figures in his paintings, we see more and more representation of androgyny today – which we believe Leonardo would have approved of.

Genius Immersive Experience: Ignition
Imagine, Leonardo da Vinci wakes up after sleeping for 503 years and sees our world today. What did he create and discover all those years ago that have influenced us throughout time?
Looking at all the incredible discoveries and technological developments that have come about since his time, we imagine seeing the world today through his eyes. The Ignition sets the scene for the show and sparks the creative minds of the visitors to think about exactly this as they experience Genius.
The culmination of this scene is in a pixel rush that flows out from the cube, taking this incredibly vast range of information, discovery, innovation and thought across the space and into the world of Leonardo. A moment in which Mona Lisa appears to us for the first time in the show before we enter the world of Leonardo’s art.

Genius Immersive Experience: Clouds
How would it feel to be a bird with the ability to fly and see the world from a different perspective? This is a thought Leonardo busied himself with in his time and he created several flying machines, groundbreaking inventions that beat the path for the ones we know of today. These included a helicopter (known as the aerial screw), a flying machine which resembles and functions like a bird’s wings, and a parachute which was only very recently tested and said to offer a smoother ride than modern parachutes! Since then, we have developed several flying machines such as the zeppelin and hot air balloons, and have variations of his inventions such as the airplane, helicopter and modern parachute.
We decided to recreate the feeling he was trying to achieve – the weightless flight above clouds. As visitors walk above clouds, they can interactively move them on the ground to reveal the city of Berlin beneath them.
He was always trying to get to places that were out of reach to humans, to give humans superhero abilities. He was fascinated with everything because he didn’t know the answer, and did everything in his power to find it.

Genius Immersive Experience: Planets
The view of the Earth from above is an image we are familiar with today, however, during Leonardo’s time, this was only visible in the imagination. While he tried to explore all possible phenomena on our planet from the ground, imagine what he would have explored if he could observe the Earth from a distance?
While he would surely have made exciting discoveries, one of these would also be the objects that float around the Earth’s atmosphere, the human-made trash that has collected around our world since his time. A moment of reflection on our actions in the past few hundred years.
Leonardo was fascinated by anything that was unfamiliar or out of reach, and he would do everything in his power to reach and explore it. This was true for the underwater world as well as outer space. He studied the moon extensively and even discovered what is now known as the “da Vinci glow”. If he had the possibility, he would have been the first person on the moon which he spent so much time studying.
He was already thinking about satellite technology long before the technology existed. If he had satellite technology, what would he study on the Earth from above – air currents, moving mountains, the heating of the Earth? And if he had telescopes familiar to us today, how far into the galaxies would he go and what would he discover? We bet, for him, the sky wouldn’t be the limit.
As we believe he would have thought today:
What incredible things we can do today, things no one would have dreamt of a few moons ago. To reach distances beyond what meets the eye and uncover mysteries beyond those of our Earth – secrets from my time still waiting, and now possible, to be explored.

Genius Immersive Experience: Stars
There are many different theories and interpretations of Leonardo da Vinci’s The Last Supper. One of these interpretations states that the twelve apostles represent the twelve zodiacs with detailed descriptions as to the connection between them. We decided to explore this further, connecting the viewers with Leonardo’s painting in a different way.
The Stars scene aims to create a connection and spark conversation between visitors playfully. While the cube gives background information on the link between each apostle to their respective zodiac as well as the representation of Jesus Christ as the sun, visitors can interact with messages related to their zodiac sign on the outer walls.
The messages inspire creativity with quests while quotes ignite the creator within you. We wanted to create a moment to not only connect visitors to the painting, but also different visitors to each other – a reminder to look around and speak to someone new. We believe that the best creative results come out of an exchange.
We also wanted to pay respect to the many geniuses who were possibly inspired by da Vinci’s work. The geniuses are playfully connected to their respective zodiac sign. Did you know that Socrates was a Taurus? As he once said:
"The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but on building the new."

Genius Immersive Experience: Superheroes
Leonardo da Vinci spent a lot of time observing the human body and proportions. One of his most famous works is the Vitruvian Man. He drew what he considered to be the ideal proportions for the male body. We decided to reinterpret this work as a person, not male or female and - regardless of bodily proportions - we tap into Leonardo da Vinci’s desire for giving people superhero abilities, whether for underwater exploration with a scuba suit or taking over the skies with a flying machine.
Our Vitruvian Person is our superhero. We at flora&faunavisions are rooted in electronic music. The place where we feel that we as designers are the most free and can almost fly, where we feel superhuman, is on the dancefloor. We were excited to create the ultimate superhero moment of flight by creating our perfect dancefloor moment where we can dance with our Vitruvian Person and feel limitless.
The whole room is covered in moving geometries. They dance across the room with the music, creating multiple perspectives and extending the boundaries of the room beyond the four walls. Leonardo spent a lot of time studying perspective, as well as geometries, one of many topics he studied the works of Geniuses from non-western cultures for. A reminder that even the greatest Genius learned from those before him, across cultures, and an inspiration for us to do the same.
