Enjoy these images of Hilla Toony Navok’s excellent installation „Rolling Room“ (2019), currently on view at Providence College Galleries (Rhode Island).

"The group exhibition 'Tel Aviv: From the seafoam and clouds to the here and now' examines how contemporary artists from Tel Aviv take as their subject the form, myth, message and image of their city’s iconic area of Modernist structures: The White City, a collection of over 4.000 buildings built in a unique form of Bauhaus or International Style. (…) Hilla Toony Navok uses free-standing sculpture to bring together architectural elements from historical and contemporary versions of these spaces, including wall sections, lighting fixtures, and surface treatments. The resulting works create sculptural vignettes that imply the whole with mere fragments.“
(Press release Providence College Galleries)

The exhibition is curated and organized by Jamilee Lacy, Director and Chief Curator at Providence College Galleries and Guest Curator Dr. Revital Michali.

The Israeli exhibition that puts the oomph back in wall art

Congratulation, Hilla Toony Navok!

Haaretz contributor Avi Pitchon on the group exhibition "Murals", curated by Udi Edelman at the Israeli Center for Digital Art in Tel Aviv:

"Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed a fixed object on a nearby pillar; it looked like the abandoned remnant of one of those small rows of signs you see at the entrance to office buildings, the ones that say something like “Molotov & Ribbentrop, attys.” Wait a minute, I didn’t remember seeing this the last time I was here … And there was something familiar about the combination of colors and materials … Aha! It’s a work by Hilla Toony Navok, of course!
Next to it is a more sculptural version of the same thing, utilizing similar materials and colors but relinquishing the mundane and functional association. Following Navok’s unspectacular collaboration with David Adika in a recent show at Artport in Tel Aviv, it’s wonderful to be reminded of her genius. She’s like a magician who shows you the naked and empty form of the routine, and then does some hocus pocus and transforms it into a retro-modernist sculptural homage."

In West Germany, the late 1960s were a notoriously vibrant time of political and social unrest, artistic solidarity, and experimentation, often combined with anti-capitalist critiques. For Ilse Henin, a student in those years, it was a formative period. Trained as a painter, she would go on to dedic...

Installation for Radio Broadcast and Live Performance.

JD ZAZIE is an experimental DJ, avant-turntablist and sound artist. Coming from a DJ and a radiophonic background JD Zazie has explored over the years different approaches of real-time manipulation on fixed recorded sound. In her work she redefines DJ and electroacoustic activities. As a solo performer, in small groups or large ensembles she moves in an area which is constantly stretching the borders of what is supposed to be DJ mixing, free improvisation and composed music. Juxtaposition, decontextualization, fragmentation, repetition, sonic texture, scratch and error are elements of the grammar adopted to relate, organize and rearrange the sound material. She is art director of “MuseRuole - women in experimental music” festival, as well as a member of the Burp Enterprise collective and broadcasts monthly on Co Lab Radio and on Reboot.fm.

Hailing from Berlin DJ ShluchT works at DIYChurch.org as one of their unpaid interns since more than 10 years. He made himself a name within the online art club/ netart and message board scene as well as naive ghost coding, organising and running the venue westgermany and tape looping. His Dj sets are very eclectic – drug referential stoner-logic reflecting on movies without watching them and basically it always sounds the same or like one of his critics once said: "classic intuitive wrongfootedness". When he is not djing or radioing, ShluchT likes to sit in his virtual bay & watch his yachts, little known but he runs a virtual yacht club where he shares his enthusiasm for underwater landscape painting and networked waves. He also released some mixtapes & audio works.
