Sophie Jung features Alexandra Leykauf's exhibition in the taz column "Kunsttips der Woche". Thank you.

While Michaela Meise prepares the second part of her solo exhibition at Städtische Galerie Nordhorn (featuring a large selection of her graphic works!), we are pleased to share some installation views of the first part, „Totenklage“.

The video is on view at the website of Städtische Galerie Nordhorn:

https://staedtische-galerie.nordhorn.de/galerie/ausstellungsarchiv/programm-2020/michaela-meise.html

In the aftermath of the racist motivated murders on February 19, 2020 in Hanau, Meise’s hometown, she recorded the song „Cemalim“ by Turkish musician Erkin Koray in a german translation and produced a video that was shown for the first time on the occasion of the award exhibition.

Together with Thomas Niemeyer, Director of Städtische Galerie Nordhorn and grown up in Hanau as well, Meise decided to present the video all alone - above all, to make visible the meaning and the atrocity of this attack, that was crowded out of the public attention due to the pandemic.

Meise's version of „Cemalim“ is an artistic bridging between times and cultures. She dedicates the song to the victims and the bereaved in Hanau. The work was realised in cooperation and as part of the exhibition „Tell me about /yesterday/ tomorrow“ at NS Dokumentationszentrum Munich, curated by Nicolaus Schafhausen in 2019/2020.

Unfortunately the exhibition "Window Shopping" at Kunstverein Siegen with works by Alexandra Leykauf, that used to open next Saturday, is postponed to December 2020. Fingers crossed!

Dragutin Banic takes part of the group exhibition „Cornfeld“, invited by Heidi Specker to accompany her wonderful solo exhibition „Damme“ at Kommunale Galerie Berlin.

Heidi Specker invited artists to add something to a print of a historical etching. The etching shows the agricultural crop corn and was published in „Das Pflanzenreich“ („plant kingdom“) in 1895. The exhibition project „Cornfeld“ is the result of this collaboration and will be presented among Specker’s works.

"Simone Gilges' '(eye in the sky)' evokes two states of consciousness, deep sleep and wakefulness. A soft panel of cross-woven silk with delicate hues changing with the perspective of the viewer, the work seems both to offer and resist the act of 'lifting a corner of the veil'."
