🙌🏼

Today is celebrated the 35th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, which occurred on November 9, 1989, and is a significant milestone in world history, symbolizing the end of the Cold War and the reunification of Germany. The fall of the Berlin Wall marked not only the dismantling of a physical barrier but also the collapse of the ideological divide between East and West.

Today is celebrated as one of the most powerful symbols of freedom and the triumph of democracy over oppression. It marked the beginning of German reunification, which was completed less than a year later, on October 3, 1990. The event triggered a domino effect, leading to the dissolution of the Eastern Bloc, the end of the Soviet Union in 1991, and a reshaping of global geopolitics.

The Berlin Wall’s fall remains a symbol of resilience and a reminder of the importance of freedom and unity. For Germany, it represents the reunification of its people, and globally, it’s a testament to the power of grassroots movements in overcoming authoritarian regimes.

The 35th anniversary underscores not only the historical significance of the event but also the ongoing relevance of the fight for freedom and human rights, as well as the importance of confronting divisive barriers in today’s world.

Less barriers, more unification. We love Germany, not walls. 🇩🇪❤️

🪁 Alte Schönhauser Straße

🏠
Alte Schönhauser Straße is a historic street located in the central Mitte district of Berlin, Germany. This street is situated in one of Berlin’s most vibrant and trendy neighborhoods, known for its mix of old-world charm and modern urban culture.

🏦
It has roots dating back to the medieval period when it was part of the early urban development of Berlin. The name “Schönhauser” likely originates from the nearby Schönhausen Palace, a summer residence of Prussian royalty. The “Alte” (meaning “old”) distinguishes it from other nearby streets with similar names. The area around Alte Schönhauser Straße has seen various transformations over the centuries, from a residential area for the wealthy to a hub for craftsmen and small businesses.

☕️
Today, the street is known for its eclectic mix of boutiques, cafes, and restaurants, making it a popular destination for both locals and tourists. It reflects Berlin’s blend of old and new, with historic buildings housing modern retail shops, art galleries, and designer stores. This area is also a part of the broader Spandauer Vorstadt, a district known for its creative scene and artistic heritage.

👠
The street is lined with independent fashion boutiques, offering unique and often locally produced clothing and accessories. It’s a popular spot for those looking to find something different from the mainstream brands. It has also numerous cafes, bars, and restaurants, catering to a wide range of tastes.

🚃
The street features a mix of architectural styles, from classic Berlin tenement houses (Altbauten) to more modern structures. Some buildings still retain the charm of pre-war Berlin, with ornate facades and traditional designs. It’s also well-connected via public transportation, with several U-Bahn (subway) stations nearby, including the Weinmeisterstraße and Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz stations.

📸 Museum für Fotografie

If you are a photography lover or enthusiast, this place is made for you.

Since its opening in 2004, the Museum of Photography has become a crowd-puller for photography enthusiasts from all over the world. In recent years, over one million visitors have attracted the exhibitions, with which the Photography Collection of the Art Library and the Helmut Newton Foundation cover a total of 2,000 square meters here.

The Helmut Newton Foundation shows on the two lower floors of the building the long-standing permanent presentation “Helmut Newton’s Private Property” and exhibitions on the work of Helmut Newton, his wife Alice Springs, and his companions: from “Helmut Newton: S*x and Landscapes” to “Newton, Nachtwey, Lachapelle: Men, War & Peace” to “Pigozzi and the Paparazzi” and “Helmut Newton Polaroids”.

The Photography Collection of the Art Library offers changing exhibitions on the medium of photography in a wide thematic variety in the Kaisersaal on the second floor. The impressive ruin of the Kaisersaal offered an unusual place for contemporary art and photography in exhibitions of the Photography Collection of the Art Library from 2004 to 2008. Photographers and artists, Raimund Ku**er, M+M, Philipp Schönborn, Boris Hars-Tschachotin and Hannes Nehls, Regina Schmeken, Reiner Leist, Raymond Depardon, and Simone Mangos, designed spectacular installations in confrontation with the room damaged during the Second World War. The exhibitions were always used to play out the border areas of photography, asked about the relationships of the medium to sculpture and film, religion and history.

🎞 Freiluft Kino Friedrichshain

Nothing better than enjoying the beginning of the Summer season with an amazing session in an open-air cinema, right?

Today at the Freiluft Kino Friedrichshain, at 21:30, there is the remarkable movie Call Me by Your Name.

With this feather-light film about the first love between Elio and his father’s assistant, the Timothy Chalamet era began.

Sensual emotional cinema, based on the subtle script by old master James Ivory (Maurice, reunion in Howard’s End, room with a view) Northern Italy, 1983: Perlman family spends the summer in their sophisticated villa.

In a mixture of pleasing determination, youthful overconfidence, and overplayed shyness, the 17-year-old Elio approaches the archeology doctoral student Oliver, who specializes in Roman cultural history, whom his father hired for the season.

Morgen! It’s 21 degrees on a sunny day, so nothing better than going and enjoy the day in Park am Gleisdreieck.

The Park is a public green and recreational area in Berlin. The park, which covers around 31.5 hectares, is located on the fallow land of the former Hitchhiker and Potsdam freight station at the Gleisdreieck and extends from the Landwehrkanal via Yorckstraße to the Monumentenbrücke.

The facility consists of three parking parts that were opened between 2011 and 2014:

- Ostpark in Kreuzberg, 17 hectares.
- Westpark in Kreuzberg, 9 hectares.
- Dora-Duncker-Park (formerly: Flaschenhalspark) in Schöneberg, 5.5 hectares.

Nowadays the place is well known for its diversity. All the tribes from Berlin meet there. Maybe it’s because it’s located in a central area of Berlin.

Just enjoy it ✨
